Miss Uganda or ''Miss Uganda World'' is a national beauty pageant in Uganda. History The Miss Uganda pageant started in 1967, with the winner always participating at the Miss World pageant, though having only one Miss Uganda reaching the finals since its inception. The Ministry of Agriculture directs the Miss Uganda with the stated purpose of increasing the interest of young people in agriculture. In 2014, Salim Saleh publicly announced collaboration between the Miss Uganda Foundation, the organizers of the annual contest, and the Wealth Creation program that Saleh heads. "We are almost signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Miss Uganda Foundation because we want to choose the next Miss Uganda basing on agriculture and this is intended to interest the young people into the sector," Saleh said. Beauty Pageant
A beauty pageant is a competition that has traditionally focused on judging and ranking the physical attributes of the contestants. Pageants have now evolved to include inner beauty, with criteria covering judging of personality, intelligence, talent, character, and charitable involvement, through private interviews with judges and answers to public on-stage questions. The term beauty pageant refers originally to the Big Four international beauty pageants. Pageant titles are subdivided into Miss, Mrs. or Ms., and Teen – to clearly identify the difference between pageant divisions. Hundreds and thousands of beauty contests are held annually, but the Big Four are considered the most prestigious, widely covered and broadcast by media. Quiin Abenakyo
Quiin Abenakyo (born 11 February 1996) is a Ugandan model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Uganda 2018. She represented Uganda at Miss World 2018 in China and was crowned Miss World Africa 2018. At the Miss World 2018 contest, Abenakyo was a winner in the head to head challenge portion of the contest, and she placed in the Top 5 overall. She is the first Ugandan to place this high in this annual pageant. Background and education Abenakyo was born in Mayuge District, in February 1996, to Ugandan parents, Charles Sembera, a Musoga, from Mayuge District and Alice Kyamulesire, a Mutooro, from Kabarole District. Miss World Beach Beauty
Miss World is the oldest existing international beauty pageant. It was created in the United Kingdom by Eric Morley in 1951. Since his death in 2000, Morley's widow, Julia Morley, has co-chaired the pageant. Along with Miss Universe, Miss International, and Miss Earth, it is one of the Big Four international beauty pageants. Sylvia Namutebi
Sylvia Wilson Namutebi Alibhai is a Ugandan former model and beauty pageant titleholder. She reigned as Miss Uganda in 2011 and represented Uganda at Miss World later that year. Biography Namutebi was born to Paul Ssekuwanda in Wakiso, Uganda. She holds a degree in Human Resources Management from Makerere University Business School. Miss World 2011, the 61st edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 6 November 2011 at the Earls Court Two in London, United Kingdom. As part of the events, the contestants also travelled to Edinburgh, Scotland between 23 and 27 October. Miss World 2012, the 62nd edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 18 August 2012 at Dongsheng Fitness Center Stadium in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, China. 116 contestants from all over the world competed for the crown. Ivian Sarcos of Venezuela crowned her successor Yu Wenxia of China at the end of the event. This is the second time China has won the title of Miss World. Leah Kalanguka (born 1991) is a Ugandan actress, model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Uganda 2014 and represented her country at the Miss World 2014 pageant. Zahara Nakiyaga, also Zahra Nakiyaga is a beauty pageant contestant who was crowned Miss Uganda 2015 at the age of 23 years. She represented Uganda in Miss World 2015 in Sanya, China, in December 2015. Miss World 2015, the 65th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 19 December 2015 at the outdoor arena of the Crown of Beauty Theatre in Sanya, China. 114 contestants from all over the world competed for the crown.
