Miss USA 1988
Miss USA 1988 was the 37th Miss USA pageant, televised live from the El Paso Civic Center in El Paso, Texas on March 1, 1988. At the conclusion of the final competition, Courtney Gibbs of Texas was crowned Miss USA, becoming the fourth consecutive winner from Texas. The pageant was hosted by Growing Pains star Alan Thicke, the first time in twenty years that Bob Barker did not host, and the pageant commentator was Tracy Scoggins. Barker, an animal rights activist, refused to be involved because one of the winner's prizes was a fur coat. There had been controversy surrounding the fur coats since the previous year, and Barker claimed he had asked pageant officials not to give away coats for years but that he had been ignored. Other animal rights activists threatened to picket the pageant in protest at its fur policy and disrupted a pre-pageant press conference. Courtney Ann Gibbs-Mokarow (née Gibbs; born August 20, 1966) is an American actress, model and beauty pageant titleholder who won Miss USA 1988 and Top 10 semifinalist at Miss Universe 1988. Miss USA Born to Charles Gaylord Gibbs and Susan Eckardt-Gibbs, Mokarow participated in the 1988 Miss USA pageant as Miss Texas USA, winning the title and becoming the fourth of five consecutive winners from Texas during the 1980s. Miss Georgia USA
The Miss Georgia USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Georgia in the Miss USA pageant. This pageant is directed Greenwood Productions under the ownership of Miss Tennessee USA 1989 Kim Greenwood and it is hosted in McDonough, Georgia. Georgia has had a fair success at Miss USA, and has yet to win the title. The best placement was Erin Nance, who placed 1st runner-up in 1993, and many 2nd and 4th runner-ups. The most recent placement was Alyssa Beasley in 2020, placing Top 16. Four former Miss Georgia Teen USAs went on to win this competition, but only three titleholders has previously competed at Miss America. One represented Connecticut. Miss USA 1984 was the 33rd Miss USA pageant, televised live from Lakeland Civic Auditorium, Lakeland, Florida on May 17, 1984. At the conclusion of the final competition, Mai Shanley of Miss New Mexico USA, New Mexico was crowned Miss USA 1984 by outgoing titleholder Julie Hayek of Miss California USA, California. The pageant was hosted by Bob Barker. It was the first time the pageant had been held in Florida since 1971, the last time the pageant had been held in its old home of Miami Beach. Miss USA 1979 was the 28th Miss USA pageant, televised live by CBS from the Gulf Coast Convention Center in Biloxi, Mississippi on April 30, 1979. The pageant was won by Mary Therese Friel of New York, who was crowned by outgoing titleholder Judi Andersen of Hawaii. Miss USA 1975 was the 24th Miss USA pageant, televised live by CBS from Niagara Falls, New York on May 17, 1975. The pageant was won by Summer Bartholomew (who later went to work with Jim Perry on ''Sale of the Century'' on NBC from 1983 to 1989) of California, who was crowned by outgoing titleholder Karen Morrison of Illinois. Miss USA 1986 was the 35th Miss USA pageant, televised live on May 20 from Miami, Florida on CBS. The ceremonies were hosted by Bob Barker. At the conclusion of the final competition, Christy Fichtner of Texas was crowned Miss USA, becoming the second consecutive winner from Texas. Fichtner served the pageant for only nine months as the pageant was moved into the newly-established February schedule in 1987. Julie Lynne Hayek (born October 4, 1960) is an American actress, model, charity worker and beauty queen who won Miss USA 1983. Early life Hayek is of Czech and German descent on her father's side and Norwegian, Scottish, Irish, and English on her mother's side. Her father was an airline pilot and her mother a high school guidance counselor. She graduated from UCLA a year after holding the Miss USA title, with a bachelor's degree in biology and a minor in psychology. While cheerleading at UCLA, she was discovered. After shooting a poster for 20th Century Fox, she was asked to do a screen test by Paramount Studios head of casting Rueben Cannon, and was subsequently featured in an ''NBC Nightly News'' story. Miss USA 1967 was the 16th Miss USA pageant, won by Sylvia Hitchcock of Alabama. She was crowned by Miss USA 1966, Maria Remenyi of California. It took place at the Miami Beach Auditorium in Miami Beach, Florida on May 20, 1967. The Miss Tennessee USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Tennessee in the Miss USA pageant. The pageant is directed by Greenwood Productions under the ownership of Miss Tennessee USA 1989, Kimberly Payne Greenwood, since 1992. Since 1999, the pageant has been held at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee. Lynnette Cole, Miss Tennessee USA 2000, and Rachel Smith, Miss Tennessee USA 2007, are the only titleholders to win the Miss USA title and both previously won the Miss Tennessee Teen USA title. Miss Illinois USA
The Miss Illinois USA pageant is a competition that selects the representative for the state Illinois in the Miss USA pageant. It is directed by Vanbros and Associates and is previously directed by D&D Productions from 2001 to 2014 before becoming part of Vanbros organization in 2014, headquartered in Lenexa, Kansas. Illinois is one of the most successful states in the competition. It is one of only four states to have won four or more Miss USA titles and one of only four states to win two Miss USA titles in consecutive years.
