Miss USA 1955
Miss USA 1955 was the 4th Miss USA pageant, held at Long Beach Municipal Auditorium, Long Beach, California on July 20, 1955. The pageant was won by Carlene King Johnson of Vermont, who was crowned by outgoing titleholder Miriam Stevenson of South Carolina. King Johnson went on to finish as a Top 15 semi-finalist at Miss Universe 1955. First runner-up Margaret Haywood later went to London for Miss World 1955, finishing first runner-up to Susana Duijm of Venezuela. Carlene King Johnson
Carlene King Johnson Drake (May 31, 1933 – April 15, 1969) was an American model and beauty pageant titleholder who won Miss USA 1955. She attended Middlebury College, where she was a member of the Nu chapter Sigma Kappa sorority.Sigma Kappa Triangle Magazine, Fall 1955, pg. 4, George Banta Publishing Company She was a legacy of Sigma Kappa sorority, as her mother, Katherine King Johnson, was a member of the Alpha Kappa Chapter. She later attended the Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene at Tufts University in Boston, where she was voted Inter Fraternity Council Queen. After winning the Miss Vermont USA crown, Johnson, from Rutland, Vermont, went on to become Vermont's only representative (as of 2021) to achieve the title of Miss USA. Miss Georgia USA
The Miss Georgia USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Georgia in the Miss USA pageant. This pageant is directed Greenwood Productions under the ownership of Miss Tennessee USA 1989 Kim Greenwood and it is hosted in McDonough, Georgia. Georgia has had a fair success at Miss USA, and has yet to win the title. The best placement was Erin Nance, who placed 1st runner-up in 1993, and many 2nd and 4th runner-ups. The most recent placement was Alyssa Beasley in 2020, placing Top 16. Four former Miss Georgia Teen USAs went on to win this competition, but only three titleholders has previously competed at Miss America. One represented Connecticut. The United States has continuously sent a representative to Miss World since its inception in 1951. The United States has won the Miss World crown three times in 1973, 1990 and 2010. Miss Arizona USA is the beauty pageant that selects the representative for the state of Arizona in the Miss USA pageant, and the name of the title held by its winner. Miss Wisconsin USA
The Miss Wisconsin USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Wisconsin in the Miss USA pageant. Since 2007, the state pageant has been directed by Future Productions of Savage, Minnesota. Wisconsin is one of the least successful states in the Miss USA system with only seven placements in over sixty years as the state has yet to win the Miss USA title. The most recent placement was Bishara Dorre in 2014, placing Top 10. Miss Washington USA
The Miss Washington USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Washington in the Miss USA pageant. It is currently produced by Pageants NW Productions based in Puyallup, Washington, which also produces Idaho, Montana and Oregon state pageants. Washington has been moderately successful in terms of number of semi-finalists and placements, and has had one Miss USA. Miss Texas USA
The Miss Texas USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state Texas in the Miss USA pageant, and the name of the title held by that winner. This pageant is part of the Miss USA Organization, owned by Texas native Crystle Stewart, herself a Miss USA for 2008. The pageant is currently held in Houston. It has previously been hosted by El Paso, San Antonio, South Padre Island, Lubbock and Laredo. It was televised from 1971 to 2009.
