Miss Rwanda 2009, the 2nd edition of the Miss Rwanda pageant, was held on December 19, 2009 at Gikondo Expo Grounds in Kigali. The winner, Grace Bahati succeeded Dalila Uwera, Miss Rwanda 1993. Results Special Awards *Miss Congeniality - Winnie Uwanyuze ( Eastern Province) *Miss Photogenic - Grace Bahati ( Southern Province) *Miss Popular - Winnie Ngamije (Kigali) Preparation The 13 contestants were selected from their respective provinces to compete in the national competition. Various activities were organized to prepare candidates for the final. The first training camp was held at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel in Rubavu and later, in Nyarutarama. Northern Province ( rw, Intara y'Amajyaruguru; french: Province du Nord; nl, Noordelijke Provincie) is one of Rwanda's five provinces. It was created in early January 2006 as part of a government decentralization program that re-organized the country's local government structures. Northern Province comprises most of the former provinces of Ruhengeri and Byumba, along with northern portions of Kigali Rural. Sonia Rolland
Sonia Rolland (born 11 February 1981) is a French actress who was Miss France 2000. She was the first African-born winner of the Miss France pageant. Born in Kigali, Rwanda, to a Rwandan mother and a French father, Rolland and her family fled the country due to safety concerns with the Rwandan genocide instigating, especially since her mother is Tutsi. In 1990 they moved to the neighboring country of Burundi. With the growing unrest that led to the Burundi Civil War, they moved to France in 1994. At the age 13, Rolland settled with her family in Burgundy in the small town of Cluny.
