Miss International Puerto Rico
Miss International Puerto Rico (previously called Miss Puerto Rico) is a national beauty pageant in Puerto Rico. History The first Puerto Rican delegate in Miss International was Carmen Sara Látimer, sent in 1960. Since 1960, Puerto Rico has produced two winners ( Laurie Simpson in 1987 and Valerie Hernandez in 2014), one 3rd runner-up and ten semi-finalists. The Miss Puerto Rico pageant had the Miss International franchise from 1960 to 1997, after a two-year hiatus, a new pageant was created called ''Miss Puerto Rico Turismo'' that sent representatives until 2007 when a new organization acquired the franchise (Creative Options Inc. – Fernando Oquendo Vega). Beauty Pageant
A beauty pageant is a competition that has traditionally focused on judging and ranking the physical attributes of the contestants. Pageants have now evolved to include inner beauty, with criteria covering judging of personality, intelligence, talent, character, and charitable involvement, through private interviews with judges and answers to public on-stage questions. The term beauty pageant refers originally to the Big Four international beauty pageants. Pageant titles are subdivided into Miss, Mrs. or Ms., and Teen – to clearly identify the difference between pageant divisions. Hundreds and thousands of beauty contests are held annually, but the Big Four are considered the most prestigious, widely covered and broadcast by media. Miss International 2016
Miss International 2016, the 56th Miss International pageant, was held on October 27, 2016 at the Tokyo Dome City Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Edymar Martínez from Venezuela crowned her successor Kylie Verzosa from the Philippines at the end of the event. The pageant hosted by Tetsuya Bessho on his third consecutive year of Miss International. This is the first time in Miss International history that the finals night saw the return of the previous year's runners-up to crown their respective successors. Miss International 2007, the 47th Miss International pageant, was held on October 15, 2007 at The Prince Park Tower in Tokyo, Japan. 61 contestants from all over the world competed for the crown. Miriam Ivette Pabón Carrión (born January 3, 1985), also known as Mimi Pabón, is a Puerto Rican model, TV host, entertainment reporter, actress and beauty pageant titleholder. Early life Born in New York, she moved with her family back to Puerto Rico at age 9. Since early age she demonstrated a big interest in dance, music, modeling and everything related to the entertainment industry. Miss International 2008, the 48th Miss International pageant, was held on November 8, 2008 at The Venetian Macao in Macau, the presenters are Eric Tsang, Dodo Cheng, Astrid Chan. 63 contestants from all over the world competed for the crown, marking the biggest turnout in the 48 years of the pageant, surpassing the previous of 61 during last year pageant. Miss International 2009, the 49th Miss International pageant, was held on November 28, 2009, at the Sichuan International Tennis Center in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. The pageant was originally scheduled to be held on November 7, 2009, at The Venetian Macao in Macau, but the host committee backed out. 65 contestants competed for the coveted title. Aideliz Hidalgo
Aideliz Hidalgo (born 1986 in Santurce) is a Puerto Rican beauty pageant titleholder who held the title of Miss Puerto Rico International 2010. She was the first black woman to compete in Miss International as Miss Puerto Rico. Career Nuestra Belleza Latina 2008 In the spring of 2008 Aideliz participated in the reality show/beauty contest Nuestra Belleza Latina. After weeks of auditions, Aideliz was selected as one of the final twelve finalists, in which she was eliminated on the fourth week of the show, finishing in ninth place. Miss International 2010, the 50th anniversary of the Miss International pageant, was held on November 7, 2010 at the Sichuan Province Gymnasium in Chengdu, China. Miss International 2009, Anagabriela Espinoza of Mexico crowned her successor, Elizabeth Mosquera of Venezuela, at the end of the event. Miss International 2012, the 52nd Miss International pageant, was held on October 21, 2012 at Okinawa Prefectural Budokan Arena Building in Okinawa, Japan. Fernanda Cornejo from Ecuador crowned her successor Ikumi Yoshimatsu from Japan at the end of the event. Yoshimatsu was dethroned shortly before the end of her reign, but she was not replaced. She was ordered by The International Culture Association (Miss International organizer) to skip the succession ceremony and “play sick and shut up” out of fear of scandal.
