Miss France (foaled 23 March 2011) is an Irish-bred, French-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. In May 2014 she won the 1000 Guineas. Background Miss France is a bay filly with no white markings, bred in Ireland by Dayton Investments. She was sired by Dansili, whose other progeny have included Harbinger, The Fugue, Dank and Rail Link. Her dam, Miss Tahiti, was a top-class racemare who won the Group One Prix Marcel Boussac in 1995. Racing career 2013: two-year-old season Miss France began her racing career at Deauville Racecourse on 1 August when she finished ninth of the ten runners in a maiden race over 1200 metres. On 31 August she started 5.3/1 second favourite for a race over 1600 metres at Chantilly Racecourse. The Prix Marcel Boussac is a Group 1 flat horse race in France open to two-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run at Longchamp over a distance of 1,600 metres (about 1 mile), and it is scheduled to take place each year in early October. It is France's only Group 1 event exclusively for juvenile fillies. The leading participants usually become major contenders for the following year's fillies' Classics. History The event was established in 1969, and it was originally called the Critérium des Pouliches. The best two-year-old fillies had previously competed against male horses in the Grand Critérium. Avenir Certain (foaled 30 April 2011) is a French Thoroughbred racehorse who was unbeaten until racing in the 2014 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. She only raced twice as a two-year-old, and after winning one minor race in 2014, she won the Group 1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches and Prix de Diane and the Group 2 Prix de la Nonette. She is trained by Jean-Claude Rouget and owned by Antonio Caro and Gerard Augustin-Normand. Background Avenir Certain is a bay filly bred by Elisabeth Vidal and foaled on 30 April 2011. She was sired by Le Havre, who won the Prix du Jockey Club in 2009, and is now a stallion at Haras de la Cauviniere. Her dam is Puggy, a daughter of Mark of Esteem. Puggy only won one race, but finished third in the 2006 Rockfel Stakes. Prix De Diane
The Prix de Diane, sometimes referred to as the French Oaks, is a Group 1 flat horse race in France open to three-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run at Chantilly over a distance of 2,100 metres (about 1 mile and 2½ furlongs), and it is scheduled to take place each year in June. It is France's equivalent of The Oaks, a famous race in England. History The event is named after the mythological goddess Diana (in French, "Diane"). It was established in 1843, and was originally restricted to horses born and bred in France. Its distance was set at 2,100 metres, around 300 metres shorter than the English version. It was switched to Versailles during the Revolution of 1848, and was cancelled due to the Franco-Prussian War in 1871. François Doumen
François Doumen (born 11 June 1940) is a retired French racehorse trainer. From 1956 to 1970 he was an amateur jockey, and he then worked as an assistant trainer to his father Jean. As a young man he had also been a competitive slalom skier. He obtained his own training licence in 1977 and retired in August 2017 after suffering ill health. Doumen was initially based at Maisons-Laffitte, and he subsequently moved to Lamorlaye and later Chantilly and Boucé, Orne. Doumen was successful in both flat and jump racing, and his most notable horses included The Fellow, Jim and Tonic and Baracouda. His son, Thierry, is also a trainer and a former jockey. Maisons-Laffitte Racecourse
The Hippodrome de Maisons-Laffitte at 1 avenue de la Pelouse in the northwestern Parisian suburb of Maisons-Laffitte in France was a grass, turf horse racing facility and Hippodrome, track for Thoroughbred flat racing. Opened in 1878 by Joseph Oller, inventor of the Parimutuel betting, pari-mutuel machine, it sits on 92 hectares that belonged to the wealthy banker Jacques Laffitte. The nearby Château de Maisons, Château de Maisons-Laffitte is home to The Museum of the Racehorse. In November 2018 France Galop announced that the racecourse would close at the end of 2019 due to financial pressures on the organisation. The final meeting was held on 29th October 2019. Despite the efforts of local government officials there are no plans to re-open the track and the racing surface has been allowed fall into disrepair. Prix Imprudence
The Prix Imprudence is a Group 3 flat horse race in France open to three-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run over a distance of 1,400 metres (about 7 furlongs) at Maisons-Laffitte in April. History The event is named after Imprudence, a successful French-trained filly whose victories included three Classics in 1947. It was established in 1949, and was originally contested over a mile. It was cut to its present length in 1961. For a period the Prix Imprudence held Listed status. It was promoted to Group 3 level in 2009. It is currently staged on the same day as the Prix Djebel, the equivalent race for colts. The Prix Imprudence can serve as a trial for various fillies' Classics in Europe. Mickaël Barzalona (born 3 August 1991 in Avignon, France) is a French-born Thoroughbred horse racing jockey, who is the retained jockey in France for Godolphin. Career Barzalona was born into a racing family, his grandfather is Christian Barzalona a trainer based in Corsica and his uncle Armand Barzalona a former flat and jumps jockey. Barzalona began his career with André Fabre as an apprentice in 2009 and rode out his claim within the year with 72 wins. His first victory for the Godolphin team came at the Dubai Gold Cup in Meydan, before winning his first Group 1 with Wavering in the Prix Saint-Alary at ParisLongchamp. Maxime Guyon (born 7 May 1989) is a French flat racing jockey, who debuted at 2005. In 2008, he received a professional license and won first group one at the Grand Prix de Paris. In 2010, he won races in the United Kingdom, Japan and Hong Kong. Since 2015, he is a retained jockey for Wertheimer et Frère, succeeding Olivier Peslier in the role. Chantilly Racecourse
Chantilly Racecourse (In French: "Hippodrome de Chantilly") is a Thoroughbred turf racecourse for flat racing in Chantilly, Oise, France, about north of the centre of the city of Paris. Chantilly Racecourse is located in the country's main horse training area on 65 hectares next to the Chantilly Forest. A right-handed course, it was built with interlocking tracks. The main course is 2,400 metres long, with another at 2,150 metres, plus a round course adaptable from 1,400 to 2,400 metres. The first race card at Chantilly was held on 15 May 1834 and its existing grandstand was built in 1879 by the famed architect Honoré Daumet, who also did the renovations to the nearby Château de Chantilly.
