Miss Botswana is a national beauty pageant in Botswana. History Botswana pageantry runs parallel with the history of the country. Even though there had been beauty contests conducted in various villages around the country in the early 1960s, the first Miss Botswana beauty contest was in 1967, conducted as part of Botswana independence celebrations. At the time, it was determined that the colourful first beauty event was going to 'pick a perfect representative of the nation's modern womanhood. Theresa Rantao satisfactorily met those requirements. She became the winner of the Miss Botswana 1967. Earlier in 1964, Veronica Magosi of Lobatse won the Miss Bechuanaland crown. In 1965 the crown was won by Lydia Tiyo. Botswana made its debut at Miss World in 1972. Traditionally, the winner of Miss Botswana represents the country at Miss World. Sumaiyah Pandor Marope (born c. 1987) is a business student from Gaborone, Botswana, was Miss Botswana 2009. She was crowned at the Gaborone International Conference Center (GICC), on 2 May 2009. The Miss Earth Botswana is a beauty pageant that was first held in 2006, with winner will be competing at the Miss Earth pageant. This pageant is not related to the Miss Universe Botswana or Miss Botswana. The pageant Botswana made its debut at Miss Earth in 2006. The winner is involved in numerous environmental education initiatives, with more emphasis on educating the general public about the importance of a cleaner and safer environment and involved in tree planting, road safety campaigns, and taking part in the commemoration of environmentally related days such as World Environment Day. Miss World 2021
Miss World 2021 was the 70th edition of the Miss World pageant, held at the Coca-Cola Music Hall in San Juan, Puerto Rico on 16 March 2022. The coronation was originally scheduled to be held on 16 December 2021 at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum. However, the pageant was rescheduled to 16 March 2022 due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Puerto Rico. Contestants from 97 countries and territories competed in this year's pageant, featuring the smallest number of candidates at the pageant since 2003.
