Miss Beatty's Children
''Miss Beatty's Children'' is a 1992 English-language Indian drama film directed by Pamela Rooks in a directorial debut, with Jenny Seagrove, Faith Brook and Protima Bedi in lead roles. The film set in 1936 in South India, was based on Pamela Rooks own novel by the same name. At the 40th National Film Awards, the film won the award for Best Debut Film of a Director and the Best Cinematography. Plot In 1936 in South India, Jane, an English schoolteacher comes to Trippuvur to work with Mabel Forster, a Christian missionary, who runs a mission school, and works towards young girls from being sold into temple prostitution. She has Kamla Devi, a senior temple woman as her opponent. Once when Mabel has gone away Jane finds herself trapped in a local controversy. She rescues an Anglo-Indian girl and takes her to Ooty, but back in the town she is accused of kidnapping. However she manages to find help with an American doctor, Alan Chandler. Pamela Rooks
Pamela Rooks (28 February 1958 – 1 October 2010) was an Indian film director and screenwriter, most known for the film, ''Train to Pakistan'' (1998) set in Partition of India and based on Khushwant Singh's novel; it was screened at several international film festivals. Apart from that accomplishment she also made award-winning films like, ''Miss Beatty's Children'' (1992) and ''Dance Like a Man'' (2003) and several documentaries. Early life She was born Pamela Juneja in an Army household to Col. A. N. Juneja and Gudi Juneja. Barry John (theatre Director)
Barry John (born 1944) is a British-born, Indian theatre director and teacher. BARRY JOHN has resigned from "BARRY JOHN ACTING STUDIO" for various reasons. Now he is the face of "The Free Birds Collective" an actor training institute in Mumbai. He was the Founder-Director of 'Theatre Action Group' (TAG) (1973), one of the early theatre groups based in Delhi. In 1997, he launched Imago Media Company, and also started Imago Acting School in Delhi, both of which moved to Mumbai in March 2007.
