Misfits (Cold Chisel Song)
"Misfits" was a 1991 single from Australian rock band Cold Chisel, issued to promote the compilation album ''Chisel''. The single only reached number 61 in the national charts and was later dropped from subsequent ''Chisel'' re-issue packages. The song was written by organist Don Walker and was recorded during the sessions for the 1980 album ''East''. "Misfits" was originally used as the B-side for that album's third single " My Baby". The song was intended for a Health Commission documentary on homeless youth that was never released, due to the film being too "tough". The producer, Pam Scott, had approached the band to write a song about homeless teenagers in Sydney's Western Suburbs. The promotional video has footage of street kids and the band performing in a studio, shot by Peter Levy, who would later do the cover for "Circus Animals". Cold Chisel
Cold Chisel are an Australian pub rock band, which formed in Adelaide in 1973 by mainstay members Ian Moss on guitar and vocals, Steve Prestwich on drums and Don Walker on piano and keyboards. They were soon joined by Jimmy Barnes (at the time known as Jim Barnes) on lead vocals and, in 1975, Phil Small became their bass guitarist. The group disbanded in late 1983 but subsequently reformed several times. Musicologist Ian McFarlane wrote that they became "one of Australia's best-loved groups" as well as "one of the best live bands", fusing "a combination of rockabilly, hard rock and rough-house soul'n'blues that was defiantly Australian in outlook." My Baby (Cold Chisel Song)
"My Baby" is a 1980 single from Australian rock band Cold Chisel, the third released from the album ''East'' and the first of the band's singles not to be written by pianist Don Walker. This was the only track credited solely to bass player Phil Small on any of the band's albums apart from "Notion For You" on the 1994 rarities album '' Teenage Love'' (Small co-wrote "The Game" from ''Twentieth Century'' with Walker). The song proved to be one of the band's most popular, featuring a clearly defined pop sound quite different from Cold Chisel's more usual hard-edged rock. Guitarist Ian Moss provides lead vocals and Joe Camilleri of Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons contributed a saxophone solo. While "My Baby" was the third single released from ''East'' in Australia, in the U.S. it was the first. Andrew McMillan (29 December 195728 January 2012) was an Australian writer, music journalist and musician who was based in Darwin, Northern Territory from 1988. Early life Andrew McMillan was born on 29 December 1957 and was educated in Brisbane, Queensland. McMillan moved to Darwin, the capital of the Northern Territory in 1988 after travelling with the bands Midnight Oil and the Warumpi Band on the Blackfella-Whitefella tour of remote Aboriginal communities in the NT. That experience led him to write the book ''Strict Rules: The Blackfella-Whitefella Tour'' which was published in 1988 (Hodder & Stoughton) and reprinted in 1992 (Sceptre). ''East'' is the third studio album by Australian pub rock band Cold Chisel, released in June 1980. The album peaked at No. 2 and spent 63 weeks on the national chart. It was the biggest-selling Australian album release of the year. It was the only Cold Chisel album to chart in America, reaching 171 on the ''Billboard'' 200. It also reached number 32 on the New Zealand charts. History The cover art was inspired by the 1793 painting ''The Death of Marat'' by Jacques-Louis David. The photo of Barnes was taken at Roger Langford's apartment in Elizabeth Bay, where the video for " Cheap Wine" was later shot. It features a selection of their best songs from previous albums, including live versions of the tracks "Bow River", "Merry-Go-Round," "Star Hotel" and "Goodbye (Astrid Goodbye)."
