"Mirror, Mirror" is the fourth episode of the second season of the American science fiction television series ''Star Trek''. Written by Jerome Bixby and directed by Marc Daniels, it was first broadcast on October 6, 1967. The episode involves a transporter malfunction that swaps Captain Kirk and his companions with their evil counterparts from a parallel universe (later dubbed the " Mirror Universe") in which the ''Enterprise'' is a ship of the Terran Empire, a conquering and murdering organization where officers are assassinated as punishment and as a means of promotion. "Mirror, Mirror" is one of the most celebrated episodes of the original ''Star Trek'' series, and the Mirror Universe was revisited in episodes of later ''Star Trek'' series. The Original Series
''Star Trek'' is an American science fiction television series created by Gene Roddenberry that follows the adventures of the starship and its crew. It later acquired the retronym of ''Star Trek: The Original Series'' (''TOS'') to distinguish the show within the media franchise that it began. The show is set in the Milky Way galaxy, circa 2266–2269. The ship and crew are led by Captain James T.
