Lucyna Mirosława Falkowska
Lucyna Mirosława Falkowska (1951 – 7 April 2021) was a Polish scientist and oceanographer. She specialized in atmospheric chemistry, chemical oceanography and protection of the marine environment. Falkowska worked on the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography of University of Gdańsk. Education Falkowska obtained her doctorate in 1986 with a thesis on the inflow of nitrogen and phosphorus compounds from the atmosphere to the Baltic Sea (based on studies of the Southern Baltic Sea 1981–1985). On 29 September 1997 Falkowska was awarded a postdoctoral degree in oceanology at the Department of Biology, Geography and Oceanology, University of Gdańsk, on the basis of her thesis "Sea surface microvegetation: properties and processes". The habilitation process began on 1 January 1996. Career Falkowska directed several research projects in 2001. Mirosława Jastrzębska, née Kwiatkowska (born 21 March 1921 in Gąbin, Poland; died 24 October 1982) was a Polish scientist, ethnographer, and museum curator. She graduated from the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in ethnography and ethnology and in 1951 under the guidance of she defended her Masters thesis ''Folk architecture in the village of Smolanka, poviat Łuków'' (''Budownictwo ludowe we wsi Smolanka, pow. Łuków''). After that she worked at various museums. As a researcher, she was mainly interested in annual and family folk rituals and folk art. Mirosława Litmanowicz (née Kałęcka; 6 September 1928 – 18 August 2017) was a Polish chess player who won the Polish Women's Chess Championship in 1968. FIDE Woman International Master (1967). Chess career Since the mid of 1950s to the start of 1970s, Litmanowicz was one of the leading Polish women chess player. Mirosława Makuchowska (also: ''Mirka Makuchowska'') is a Polish LGBT rights activist. In 2020 she became a founding member of the Consultative Council created on 1 November 2020 in the context of the October 2020 Polish protests. Childhood and education Makuchowska graduated in sociology from the University of Wrocław. Activism Makuchowska has been a member of the LGBT rights organisation Campaign Against Homophobia (KPH) since 2005. Mirosława Sagun-Lewandowska (born September 29, 1970, in Słupsk) is a multiple air gun champion of Poland, double champion of Europe and competed in three Olympic Games: Barcelona 1992, Sydney 2000 and Beijing 2008. Her club is Gryf Słupsk, and Sagun-Lewandowska also represented Legia Warszawa. She began shooting in 1985, and four years later, she was two-times junior champion of the world in the 40 shots competition, as an individually and in team (Sarajevo, 1989). Later on, she won bronze at the Championships of Europe in Copenhagen. She holds the national record of Poland, established in 1997 (391 points out of 400 points). Mirosława Kazimiera Sarna (née Sałacińska; born 8 June 1942) is a Polish former track and field athlete who competed in the long jump, short sprints and the women's pentathlon. She was the gold medallist in the long jump at the 1969 European Athletics Championships and was twice a bronze medallist in that discipline at the European Athletics Indoor Championships. An 8-time Polish national champion, she represented her country at the 1968 Summer Olympics. Her long jump best was . Career Sarna was born in Łódź to Stefana Sałacińska and Józef Sałaciński and studied at the city's XVIII high school. She took up track and field in her youth, joining the Ogniwa athletics club in 1955 and made her international debut for Poland in 1959. She continued to study during this period and ultimately gained a master's degree in physical education.
