Miriam Smith (filmmaker)
Miriam Smith is a New Zealand filmmaker. Her films have twice won New Zealand Film Awards, in 2012 and 2017. Biography Smith studied film and English at the University of Auckland, graduating with a master's degree in screenwriting. She later studied at Binger Filmlab Binger Filmlab, formerly the Maurits Binger Film Institute, is an Amsterdam-based international feature-film and documentary development centre where screenwriters, directors, producers and script editors from around the world can be coached and su ... in the Netherlands. Smith is a co-director, with Christopher Pryor, of production company Deer Heart Films. In 2016 Smith and Pryor received the Harriet Friedlander Residency. Binger Filmlab, formerly the Maurits Binger Film Institute, is an Amsterdam-based international feature-film and documentary development centre where screenwriters, directors, producers and script editors from around the world can be coached and supported by mentors and advisors. Binger opened its doors in 1996 as a post-academic training facility for film professionals. Its venue is situated at Arie Biemondstraat 111 in Amsterdam. Presently all activities are on hold. Harriet Friedlander Residency
'The Arts Foundation of New Zealand Te Tumu Toi is a New Zealand arts organisation that supports artistic excellence and facilitates private philanthropy through raising funds for the arts and allocating it to New Zealand artists. The concept of setting up an organisation to raise private funding for the arts was initiated by Creative New Zealand in 1997. Its chair Brian Stevenson approached Richard Cathie to chair a working party on the subject and Sir Ronald Scott was appointed consultant, with help from Gisella Carr. Early working party members and trustees included Lady Mary Hardie Boys, Lady Gillian Deane, Dame Jenny Gibbs, Sir Paul Reeves, Sir John Todd, Sir Miles Warren and Sir Eion Edgar. The foundation was incorporated as a charitable Trust in 1998 with Richard Cathie remaining as chair. FIFO (film Festival)
The Festival International du Film Documentaire Océanien (FIFO), in English literally "International Oceanian Documentary Film Festival", is an annual film festival held on the French Polynesian island of Tahiti. Variant names in English include Pacific International Documentary Film Festival and International Documentary Film Festival of Oceania, but the event is commonly referred to in English as just FIFO, FIFO film festival, or FIFO Tahiti. The festival was founded in 2004 and quickly drew attention from filmmakers both in the Oceania region and elsewhere in the world. The festival celebrates documentary films from all over the world, and the event includes conferences, an Oceanian fiction night, workshops and other side-events.
