Mirage Records
Mirage Records is the name of multiple music business entities, the most notable of which was an American record label founded by Jerry and Bob Greenberg in 1980. The label, also known as Mirage Music or simply Mirage, was distributed first by Atlantic Records and later by Atco Records. Artists who released records on this label included Godley & Creme, Rose Tattoo, Phoebe Snow, and Whitesnake. The first record on this imprint was released in 1980. Unidisc
Unidisc Music is a Canadian independent record label. The label is known for releasing rare music, that was made between the mid-1960s and late 1980s. Genres include rock, electronic, funk, soul, hip hop, jazz, reggae, Latin, disco and a cappella. Unidisc owns the 1982–1993 Sutra Records catalog, and the catalogs of other independent New York labels that the latter distributed. History Founder George Cucuzzella began his career as a nightclub DJ, in Montreal, in the 1970s. He formed a Canadian Record Pool, supplying his mixes to other DJ's across Quebec, and producing remixes. Jean Knight
Jean Knight (née Caliste; born January 26, 1943)Official records state that Jean Caliste, aged 16, married in June 1954, indicating a birth year of 1938. is an American R&B and soul singer from New Orleans, Louisiana. Launching her professional career in the mid–1960s, Knight is perhaps best known for her 1971 hit single, "Mr. Big Stuff" released by Stax Records. Biography Early years She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Louis Joseph Caliste (died 1953) and Florence Edwards. After graduating from high school, she began singing at her cousin's bar, 'Laura's Place' and caught the attention of many different bands who were willing to accompany her. Xavion
Xavion was a rock band from Memphis, Tennessee who were active in the 1980s. They had the distinction of being the first African-American rock group to appear on MTV. They are known for the singles "Get Me Hot" and "Eat Your Heart Out". Background The band was founded by Michael "Slugger" Tucker and later discovered by Jim Delehart of Mirage Records. It was fronted by Dexter Haygood and at one stage they toured with Hall & Oates. The also toured with The Bar Kays, The Romantics and Sly & the Family Stone. They were managed by Tommy Mottola. They also had a degree of success with "Get Me Hot" and "Eat Your Heart Out". Nolan Thomas
Nolan Thomas (born Marko Kalfa, 24 August 1966, Jersey City, NJ) is a fashion photographer and former actor and Latin freestyle artist, mostly known for his 1984 single "Yo' Little Brother" which peaked at #57 on the '' ''Billboard'' Hot 100''. Kalfa was discovered by dance-music producers Mark Liggett and Chris Barbosa of Shannon (" Let the Music Play") fame when he was still in high school. While he did appear in the music video of "Yo' Little Brother" and sang all of the other tracks on the ''Yo' Little Brother'' album, he did not actually perform the vocals on this particular track: Elan Lanier sang them instead. Toni Tennille
Cathryn Antoinette "Toni" Tennille (born May 8, 1940) is an American singer-songwriter and keyboardist, best known as one-half of the 1970s duo Captain & Tennille with her former husband Daryl Dragon; their signature song is "Love Will Keep Us Together". Tennille also did musical work independently of Dragon, including solo albums and session work. Early life Tennille was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, and has three younger sisters. Her father Frank owned a furniture store and also served in the Alabama Legislature from 1951 to 1954. He had been a singer with Bob Crosby's Bob-Cats. The System (band)
The System is an American synth-pop duo that debuted in the 1980s, composed of vocalist-guitarist Mic Murphy and seasoned session keyboardist David Frank. The band was founded in 1982 in New York and backed up by Paul Pesco on electric guitar and Kris Khellow on keyboards and synthesizers. The group is sometimes referred to as being "emotio-electro" because of its hi-tech, synthesizer-driven sound, married with passionate vocals and sensitive lyrics. Origins David Frank and Mic Murphy met in the early 1980s while working for the soul-funk band Kleeer. Frank had gotten a break when Atlantic Records enlisted him as Kleeer's tour keyboardist. Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes are an American musical group from the Jersey Shore led by Southside Johnny. They have been recording albums since 1976 and are closely associated with Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band. They have recorded or performed several Springsteen songs, including " The Fever" and " Fade Away". Springsteen has also performed with the band on numerous occasions and in 1991 guested on their ''Better Days'' album. Mark Shreeve
Mark Shreeve (2 June 1957 – 31 August 2022) was a British electronic music composer. After initially releasing his early work on cassette through the label Mirage Records, he went on to sign for the newly formed Jive Electro in the early 1980s, and released the albums ''Assassin'', ''Legion'', and ''Crash Head''. His last solo album to date, ''Nocturne'', was released in 1995. A live album, ''Collide'', was released in 1996 featuring his live performance at EMMA two years before. Shreeve was born in Great Yarmouth on 2 June 1957. Shreeve also composed scores or sections of scores for some feature films, recorded a number of library music CDs and wrote the song "Touch Me (I Want Your Body)" for Samantha Fox, which was released and hit the chart in 1986. Robin Hugh Gibb (22 December 1949 – 20 May 2012) was a British singer and songwriter. He gained worldwide fame as a member of the Bee Gees pop group with elder brother Barry and fraternal twin brother Maurice. Robin Gibb also had his own successful solo career. Rage (English Band)
Rage were an English dance music group composed of producers Barry Leng and Duncan Hannant, drummer Hans Greeve, and fronted by vocalists Tony Jackson (1992–1993) and Steve Lee (1995). The group were renamed En-Rage in Germany, to avoid confusion with the German band Rage. Gary Moore
Robert William Gary Moore (4 April 19526 February 2011) was a Northern Irish musician. Over the course of his career he played in various groups and performed a range of music including blues, blues rock, hard rock, heavy metal, and jazz fusion. Influenced by Peter Green and Eric Clapton, Moore began his career in the late 1960s when he joined Skid Row, with whom he released two albums. After Moore left the group he joined Thin Lizzy, featuring his former Skid Row bandmate and frequent collaborator Phil Lynott. Moore began his solo career in the 1970s and achieved major success with 1978's "Parisienne Walkways", which is considered his signature song.
