Mirage Enterprises
Mirage Enterprises was an American film production company founded by director and producer Sydney Pollack in 1985. History Sydney Pollack was known for being a director and occasional actor. He began producing his own films in the 1970s, then started producing projects for other directors as well. He began his Mirage Enterprises production company in 1985, right before the release of ''Out of Africa''. A pilot, Pollack named the studio after an airplane. He added director Anthony Minghella as partner in 2001. Among the films Mirage produced were ''The Fabulous Baker Boys'' (1989), ''Sense and Sensibility'' (1995), ''The Talented Mr. Ripley'' (1999), ''Iris'' (2001), and '' Cold Mountain'' (2003). Sydney Pollack
Sydney Irwin Pollack (July 1, 1934 – May 26, 2008) was an American film director, producer and actor. Pollack directed more than 20 films and 10 television shows, acted in over 30 movies or shows and produced over 44 films. For his film ''Out of Africa'' (1985), Pollack won the Academy Award for Best Director and Best Picture. He was also nominated for Best Director Oscars for '' They Shoot Horses, Don't They?'' (1969) and ''Tootsie'' (1982). Some of his other best-known works include '' Jeremiah Johnson'' (1972), ''The Way We Were'' (1973), '' Three Days of the Condor'' (1975) and '' Absence of Malice'' (1981). ''Out of Africa'' is a 1985 American epic romantic drama film directed and produced by Sydney Pollack, and starring Meryl Streep and Robert Redford. The film is based loosely on the 1937 autobiographical book ''Out of Africa'' written by Isak Dinesen (the pseudonym of Danish author Karen Blixen), with additional material from Dinesen's 1960 book ''Shadows on the Grass'' and other sources. The book was adapted into a screenplay by the writer Kurt Luedtke, and filmed in 1984. Streep played Karen Blixen, Redford played Denys Finch Hatton, and Klaus Maria Brandauer played Baron Bror Blixen. Anthony Minghella
Anthony Minghella, (6 January 195418 March 2008) was a British film director, playwright and screenwriter. He was chairman of the board of Governors at the British Film Institute between 2003 and 2007. He won the Academy Award for Best Director for ''The English Patient'' (1996). In addition, he received three more Academy Award nominations; he was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for both ''The English Patient'' and ''The Talented Mr. Ripley'' (1999), and was posthumously nominated for Best Picture for ''The Reader'' (2008), as a producer.
