Miracle In Montreal
Montreal Impact 1–6 Toronto FC, often referred to as the Miracle in Montreal, was a soccer match played on June 18, 2009 at Saputo Stadium in Montreal, Quebec between Montreal Impact of the USL First Division and Toronto FC of Major League Soccer. Background The match was the final fixture of the 2009 Canadian Championship. With Montreal already eliminated and the Vancouver Whitecaps leading the table, Toronto FC needed to win by 4 or more goals to capture its first Voyageurs Cup and a berth in the 2009–10 CONCACAF Champions League. Match Tony Donatelli gave Montreal a 1–0 lead early in the first half on a penalty kick which meant Toronto needed 5 or more goals to beat Vancouver on goal differential. 2009 Canadian Championship
The 2009 Canadian Championship (officially the Nutrilite Canadian Championship for sponsorship reasons) was a soccer tournament hosted and organized by the Canadian Soccer Association that took place in the cities of Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver in 2009. It is the second Canadian Championship held, after the inaugural competition in 2008. As in the previous tournament, participating teams were the Montreal Impact, Toronto FC and the Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The tournament consisted of a home and away series between each pair of teams for a total of six games. Toronto FC, winners of the tournament, were awarded the Voyageurs Cup and gained entry into the Preliminary Round of the 2009–10 CONCACAF Champions League. Amado Guevara
Amado Guevara (born 2 May 1976) is a Honduran former professional footballer and manager. He was the coach of Puerto Rico from 2018 to 2019. A former midfielder, he is the second all-time cap leader for the Honduras national team seconded by Maynor Figueroa . He was selected as the Best Player of the 2001 Copa América, held in Colombia. Félix Brillant
Félix Brillant (born September 9, 1980 in Brossard, Quebec) is a Canadian former soccer player. Career Youth and Amateur Brillant began his career in the youth system of French team AS Cannes, but never appeared for the senior side. He returned to North America in 2002, and played college soccer for at Franklin Pierce College in the NCAA Division II, where he was named All-New England Region four times. In 2002 and 2003 he also played for Cape Cod Crusaders in the USL Premier Development League, with whom he won back-to-back PDL championships. Stefano Pesoli (born February 29, 1984) is an Italian footballer. Career Europe Pesoli began his career in the youth system of the famed Serie A club AS Roma but never played for the first team; he spent the majority of his early career in the Italian lower leagues, playing for Viterbese, Calangianus, Pro Vasto, Monterotondo, Rieti and Melfi. Pierre-Rudolph Mayard (born February 21, 1988), commonly known as Papouche, is a Canadian soccer player who plays as a forward for AS Blainville in the Première Ligue de soccer du Québec. Club career Early career Mayard began his career in 2003, playing with Canadian junior team FC Sélect Rive-Sud. In 2005, he played for the CSR Montréal-Concordia U18 team, winning the silver medal at the Saputo AAA Quebec Cup. In 2006, he joined SC Panellinios Montréal in the Ligue de Soccer Elite Quebec. Peter Byers (born 20 October 1984) is an Antiguan footballer who plays professionally for SAP FC and the Antigua and Barbuda national team as a striker. Club career Born in Bolans Village, Byers spent his early career in his native Antigua and Barbuda with SAP, and in Trinidad and Tobago with San Juan Jabloteh. David Testo
David Testo (born August 7, 1981) is an American retired soccer player who, after his playing career ended in 2011, became the first male American professional player of that sport to come out as gay. Testo played professionally from 2003 to 2011, including two years in with the Columbus Crew from 2004 to 2005. Joey Gjertsen (born June 13, 1982) is an American professional soccer player. Career College Gjertsen started his college soccer at Tacoma Community College where he produced 31 goals and a school record 14 assists in his freshman campaign. He then transferred to Yavapai College where he won a NJCAA national championship. Transferring once again, he enjoyed a successful two-year career at The Evergreen State College, earning All-American honors, All-Region Team and Region I Player of the year honors in 2004. Kevin Sakuda (born June 18, 1980 in Fremont, California) is an American soccer player who last played for Austin Aztex in the USSF Division 2 Professional League. Career Youth and college Sakuda attended Mission San Jose High School. He then attended Duke University where he played three seasons on the men’s soccer team from 1998 to 2001. Elkana Mayard (born May 17, 1982) is a Canadian former soccer player who played as a defender. Career Born in Montreal, Quebec, Mayard started his career in 2002 with Racing de Montréal-Nord, and SC Panellinios Montréal in the Ligue de Soccer Elite Quebec. Simon Gatti (born February 16, 1981) is a Canadian former soccer player and current head coach for thMontreal Impact Academys U-14 team. He initially began his career in his home region of Niagara with St. Catharines Wolves in the Canadian Professional Soccer League.
