Minod Moktan
Minod Moktan, better known as Minu ( ko, 미누) was a Nepali human rights activist and singer. In 2003, he founded the rock band ''Stop Crackdown'', which became a cultural symbol of migrant workers' struggles within the broader social movements of South Korea. Through Stop Crackdown and work with groups such as Migrant Workers TV, Minu advocated for better working conditions and fairer judicial treatment of migrant workers by the South Korean government. In 2009, Minu was deported to Nepal after living in Korea for 18 years. He was able to return to Korea for the first time in 9 years as an invited guest to the premier of a film about his life and work opened at the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival in Korea. On October 15, 2018, Moktan died suddenly in Nepal from a heart attack. Jeon Tae-il
Jeon Tae-il (; 28 September 1948 – 13 November 1970) was a South Korean sewing worker and Human rights defender, workers' rights activist who committed suicide by Self-immolation, self-immolation at the age of 22 in protest at the poor working conditions of South Korean factories. His death brought attention to the substandard labor conditions and helped the formation of labor union movement in South Korea. Early life Jeon Tae-il was born on 28 September 1948. He was the son of Jeon Sang-soo, a poor worker in Namsan-dong, Daegu, and his wife, Lee So-sun. At one time, his father, Jeon Sang-soo, also tried his hand at the domestic water industry, but failed repeatedly. Minjung
Minjung is a Korean word that combines the two hanja characters ''min'' () and ''jung'' (). ''Min'' is from ''inmin'' (), which may be translated as "the people", and ''jung'' is from ''daejung'' (), which may be translated as "the public". Thus, ''minjung'' can be translated to mean "the masses" or "the people." However, in the Korean political and cultural context, "the public" is not an adequate translation, and "the people" carries a communist connotation that makes its use dangerous in anti-communist South Korea. Nonetheless, "the people" is close to what ''minjung'' seeks to convey, both sociologically and politically. For Koreans, ''minjung'' are those who are oppressed politically, exploited economically, marginalized sociologically, despised culturally, and condemned religiously.
