Minneota Township was organized in 1866, and derives its name from the Dakota language word meaning "much water". Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 36.2 square miles (93.8 km), of which 33.6 square miles (87.0 km) is land and 2.6 square miles (6.8 km) (7.29%) is water.
