The Ministry of Interior ( ar, وزارة الداخلية) is the interior ministry of Syria. Its headquarters are located on Kafr Sousa in Damascus. According to the Ministry official website, its tasks are limited to the protection and enforcement of security. Lutfi Al-Haffar
Lutfi al-Haffar ( ar, لطفي الحفار) (18 February 1885 – 4 February 1968) was a Syrian businessman and politician. He was a founding member of the National Bloc and served as 11th Prime Minister of Syria in 1939. Early career Al-Haffar was born into the wealthy merchant Damascene family of al-Haffar. His early career was mostly devoted to his family's business in trade. He joined the Damascus Chamber of Commerce in 1922, and became its deputy president in 1924. In 1923 in response to the water shortages in Damascus, al-Haffar established the Ayn al-Fijeh Waterworks Company, which pumped water from the Ayn al-Fijeh spring in the Ghouta area to the city of Damascus and constructed the first modern public water system in the city. The project was an immediate success, and allowed the water from the Barada river to be used for other purposes like irrigation. Bassam Abdel Majeed
Bassam Abdel Majeed (; ar, بسام عبد المجيد ) (born 1950) is a Syrian military officer, politician and diplomat of Circassian origin. Early life and education Majeed is of Circassian origin, and was born into a Sunni Muslim family in 1950 in Beer Ajam, a village in the Quneitra Governorate in southwestern Syria. He attended Syria's Air Force Academy, graduating in 1970. Career Majeed held several military and security posts. He was director of the military police from 2003 to 2006. Ghazi Kanaan ( ar, غازي كنعان; 1942 – 12 October 2005), also known as Abu Yo'roub, was Syria's interior minister from 2004 to 2005, and long-time head of Syria's security apparatus in Lebanon. Ali Hammoud ( ar, علي حمود, born 1944) is a former Syrian intelligence officer and general who served as minister of interior from 2001 to 2004. Early life Hammoud was born in Homs into an Alawite family in 1944. Noureddin Mustafa Ali al-Atassi ( ar, نور الدين مصطفى الأتاسي, translit=Nūr ad-Dīn Muṣṭafā al-'Atasī, 11 January 1929 – 3 December 1992) was President of Syria from February 1966 to November 1970. Rushdi al-Kikhya ( ar, رشدي الكيخيا; 1899– 14 March 1987) was a Syrian political leader who founded the People's party in 1948. Sabri Al-Asali
Sabri al-Asali ( ar, صبري العسلي; 1903 – 13 April 1976) was a Syrian politician and a three-time prime minister of Syria. He also served as vice-president of the United Arab Republic in 1958. Early life Al-Asali was born into a wealthy landowning family in Damascus. His uncle, Shukri al-Asali, was a prominent national leader, and a deputy in the Ottoman Parliament.
