The Ministry of Energy is a ministry in Zambia. It is headed by the Minister of Energy. In 2012 the Ministry of Water and Energy was merged with the Ministry of Mines to form the Ministry of Mines Energy and Water Development. The merger was reversed in 2015, with the Ministry of Energy and Water Development coming into being. United Party For National Development
The United Party for National Development (UPND) is a social liberal political party in Zambia, led by Hakainde Hichilema, the current president of the country. The party is an observer member of the Africa Liberal Network. History The UPND was established in December 1998 and was initially led by Anderson Mazoka, who had left the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) shortly beforehand. Mazoka was the party's presidential candidate for the 2001 general elections, finishing second with 27% of the vote, less than 2% behind the winner Levy Mwanawasa of the MMD. In the National Assembly elections the UPND won 49 seats, becoming the second largest party after the MMD. Energy In Zambia
Zambia is potentially self-sufficient in sources of electricity, coal, biomass and renewable energy. The only energy source where the country is not self-sufficient is petroleum energy. Many of the sources of energy where the country is self-sufficient are largely unexploited. As of 2017, the country's electricity generating capacity stood at 1,901 megawatts. Lameck Kauzi Chibombamilimo (25 May 1961 – 9 August 2010) was a Zambian politician. Biography Chibombamilimo worked as a teacher before entering politics. In the 2006 general elections he ran as the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy candidate in Mpulungu and was elected to the National Assembly with 85% of the vote. Later in the year he was appointed Minister for Northern Province. In November 2008 he became Deputy Minister of Energy and Water Development. The Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) also known as New Hope MMD is a political party in Zambia.
