Palau High School
Palau High School (PHS) is a senior high school in Koror City, Palau. Opened in 1962, it is the country's only public high school, and the first high school established in Palau. The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accredits the school. The United States captured the Palau islands from Japan in 1944, and the Department of the United States Navy setup the school system in 1946, it operated elementary schools on a number of islands for grades 1–6, and opened Palau Intermediate School, in a building left by the Japanese, for the grades 7–9, offering a curriculum of vocational education programs. Palau had passed formally to the United States under United Nations auspices in 1947 as part of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, and the U.S. Trustees extended the education system to add grades 10–12 in 1962; the elementary schools took on grades 1–9 and the Intermediate School building was converted into Palau High School, offering a mix of academic and ... Melekeok
Melekeok is a state of the Republic of Palau located on the central east coast of Babeldaob Island. The seat of government of the country, Ngerulmud, is located in the state. The state consists of long beaches, hills, steep ridges, rivers, and the largest and only natural freshwater lake in the Republic of Palau and Micronesia, Lake Ngardok. Political system The state of Melekeok, with population of less than 300, has an elected chief executive, governor. The state also has a legislature elected every four years. Sonsorol (island)
Sonsorol is one of the sixteen states of Palau. The inhabitants speak Sonsorolese, a local Chuukic language, and Palauan. The islands of the state of Sonsorol, together with the islands of Hatohobei, form the Southwest Islands of Palau. By area and population it is the country’s third smallest state (after Hatohobei and Kayangel.) Peleliu
Peleliu (or Beliliou) is an island in the island nation of Palau. Peleliu, along with two small islands to its northeast, forms one of the sixteen states of Palau. The island is notable as the location of the Battle of Peleliu in World War II. History Beliliou was traditionally divided into five villages. Teliu is located on the southwest coast bordered on the north by Ngerkeiukl on the west coast, Ngesias in the central portion of the island, and Ngerdelolk on the east coast. Ngerchol occupies the northern part of the island on the west side of Bloody Nose Ridge. Most of the surface remains of the traditional villages have been obliterated. However, the locations of the villages and the locations of features within the villages, including odesongel, are known and preserved in the oral tradition. Ngeremlengui
Ngeremlengui (also spelled Ngaremlengui,) is one of Palau's sixteen states. It has a population of 350 (according to the 2015 census), and is just west of the capital in Melekeok state. Geography Ngeremlengui, located on the north-central west coast, includes the large hill mass of Roismlengui and vast tracts of the interior along the Ngermeskang River. The modern villages of Ngeremlengui include inhabited settlements at Ngermetengel, Imeong,and Ngchemesed. Along the west coast between the inlet to Ngeremeduu Bay and the Chometubet River, the terrain is very rugged with some of the highest hills in Palau including Badechemetei. Ngardmau
Ngardmau is one of Palau's sixteen states and is located on the west side of Babeldaob between the states of Ngaraard and Ngeremlengui. Geography The total area of Ngardmau is . At the time of the 2015 census, 185 people lived in the state. There were 46 households situated in three hamlets: Ngetbong, Ngerutoi and Urdmau. The hamlets have no visible boundaries, but instead form one settlement. Ngardmau is located on the northwest coast of Babeldaob and includes the long drainage basins of the Diongradid and the Irur Rivers. Ngardmau is bordered on the south by Ngeremlengui and on the east by Ngiwal and Ngaraard. The coast is lined with a thick fringe of mangroves. In the interior, rolling hills rise to the highest ground in Palau. Near the upper reaches of the Diongradid is a large waterfall. Choll
Chol (Choll) is a village at the northern end of Ngaraard State in Palau. This village consists of a large, long, beach that runs along its entire east coast. The village has a series of ancient paths and platforms, similar to the rest of the villages in Ngaraard. There is also a large man-made channel that connects the village to the sea on the western coast. At the center of the village, along the compact road, there is a small marketplace with benches where one can purchase some village refreshments. Geography The village of Choll is located directly adjacent to the village of Ngriil in Ngarchelong State. Choll has a small population, surrounded by dense forest and steep hills. Ngarchelong is a state in Palau. Ngarchelong is at the northernmost tip of the island of Babeldaob. Only the state of Kayangel is farther north. Ngiwal is one of the sixteen states of Palau. It has a population of 282 (census 2015) and an area of 26 km2 On June 21, 2018, Japan ambassador Toshiyuki Yamada gave Japan's multipurpose center to Ngiwal. Geography Ngiwal is situated between Melekeok and Ngaraard on the north central east coast of Babeldaob Island. Ngiwal extends from the coast to the Rael Kedam and includes the drainage of the Ngeredekuu River.
