The Ministries of the Argentine Republic, which form the cabinet, currently consist of sixteen ministries under a ministerial chief of staff. The ministers are appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the president. The current organization derives from the constitutional revision of 1994, and is governed by "The Law on Ministries". History Prior to independence, the administration of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata was organized under the Royal Ordinance of Administrators issued 28 January 1782 (''la Real Ordenanza de Intendentes''), under which there were eight ''intendencias'' each with a governor reporting to the viceroy. The governor had the police, finance and the military under his direct control, and his lieutenant administered the courts. At first the revolutionaries retained the same system, only gradually dispersing the executive authority over a larger body of men. Sergio Tomás Massa (born 28 April 1972) is an Argentine politician currently serving as the country's Minister of Economy since 3 August 2022. From 2019 to 2022, he served as President of the Chamber of Deputies, while serving as a National Deputy for the Frente de Todos elected in Buenos Aires Province. A former member of the Justicialist Party, in 2013 he founded his own political party, the Renewal Front. Massa previously served as Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers from 2008 to 2009 under Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. He also served twice as ''intendente'' (mayor) of Tigre, and as Executive Director of ANSES, Argentina's decentralized state social insurance agency. Jorge Enrique Taiana (born 31 May 1950) is an Argentine Justicialist Party politician, currently serving as the country's Minister of Defense, since 10 August 2021. Taiana previously served as Foreign Minister in the administrations of President Néstor Kirchner and his successor, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, from 2005 to 2010, and as a National Senator for Buenos Aires from 2019 to 2021. His father was Jorge Alberto Taiana, colleague and physician of former President Juan Perón. Dilma Vana Rousseff (; born 14 December 1947) is a Brazilian economist and politician who served as the 36th president of Brazil, holding the position from 2011 until her impeachment and removal from office on 31 August 2016.
