Minister Of Worship (France)
The Minister of Worship (or "Minister of Public Worship", or "Minister of Ecclesiastical Affairs") was a cabinet member in the Government of France responsible for overseeing the French government's relationship with religions. An area of particular attention was the Roman Catholic Church's role in public education, and the portfolio of Minister of Worship was frequently combined with " Minister of Public Education". After the founding of the Third Republic in 1871, the Jules Ferry laws and the 1905 law on the separation of the State and the Church, the Minister of Worship was combined with the Minister of Interior. Thus, it is in that quality that the previous Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy created in 2003 the CFCM. Government Of France
The Government of France (French: ''Gouvernement français''), officially the Government of the French Republic (''Gouvernement de la République française'' ), exercises executive power in France. It is composed of the Prime Minister, who is the head of government, as well as both senior and junior ministers. The Council of Ministers, the main executive organ of the Government, was established in the Constitution in 1958. Its members meet weekly at the Élysée Palace in Paris. The meetings are presided over by the President of France, the head of state, although the officeholder is not a member of the Government. Joseph Mérilhou
Joseph Mérilhou (15 October 1788 – 18 October 1856) was a French lawyer, magistrate and politician. He was Minister of Public Education and Religious Affairs, and then Minister of Justice in the Cabinet of Jacques Laffitte (2 November 1830 to 13 March 1831). Early years Joseph Mérilhou was born in Montignac, in the Périgord region, on 15 October 1788. He was the son of Jean Mérilhou and Madeleine Desmond. He studied the classics in Périgueux. He qualified as an advocate from the school of law in Paris. He became an advocate in the First French Empire, and was an assistant procurer-general in the Court of Paris during the Hundred Days. Eugène Bethmont
Eugène Bethmont (12 March 1804 – 1 April 1860) was a French politician. He was a deputy from 1842 to 1848, a representative in the Constituent Assembly of 1848, and Minister of Justice in the Cabinet of General Cavaignac (28 June 1848 to 20 December 1848). Early years Eugène Bethmont was born in Paris on 12 March 1804, son of a baker in the rue du Pont aux choux, in Le Marais. He was educated by the Oratorians of the College of Juilly, who greatly admired his talent. His family suffered financial difficulties, and at first he devoted himself to teaching. Hippolyte Carnot
Lazare Hippolyte Carnot (6 October 1801, Saint-Omer – 16 March 1888) was a French politician. He was the younger brother of the founder of thermodynamics Sadi Carnot and the second son of the revolutionary politician and general Lazare Nicolas Marguerite Carnot, who also served in the government of Napoleon, as well as the father of French president Marie François Sadi Carnot. Nicolas Martin du Nord (29 July 1790 – 12 March 1847) was a French magistrate and politician. He was Minister of Public Works, Agriculture and Commerce (1835–39) and Minister of Justice and Religious Affairs (1840–47). Early years Nicolas Ferdinand Louis Joseph Martin was born in Douai, Nord, on 29 July 1790. His parents were Louis François Joseph Martin and Anne Louise Josèphe Jacquard. His family was bourgeois and respectable, but not wealthy. He studied at the college of Tournay. He went on to study law in Paris between 1808 and 1811, receiving his doctorate in law at the age of 21. Martin began to practice at the bar of Douai, and soon gained a reputation. Alexandre François Auguste Vivien (or Vivien de Goubert; 3 July 1799 – 7 June 1854) was a French lawyer and politician. He was Minister of Justice during the July Monarchy, and Minister of Public Works in the French Second Republic. Early years Alexandre François Auguste Vivien was born on 3 July 1799 in Paris. He was Minister of Justice and Religious Affairs (1834–1837) during the July Monarchy, a peer of France (1839) and Councillor of State (1852). Atoine Maurice Apollinaire, Comte d'Argout (28 August 1782, Veyssilieu, Isère – 15 January 1858, Paris) was a French statesman, minister and governor of the Bank of France. Life He was named Peer of France on 5 March 1819 by the Duke Decazes, and voted with the moderate right. During the July Revolution of 1830, he tried to obtain from Charles X the withdrawal of the July Ordinances which had sparked the riots. A loyal supporter to the Bourbon Restoration, the Comte d'Argout accommodated himself of the new, July Monarchy, which corresponded to his moderate opinions.
