Minister Of State (Greece)
The Minister of State ( el, Υπουργός Επικρατείας) is a position within the Cabinet of Greece. There are currently two Ministers of State serving in the Cabinet of Kyriakos Mitsotakis since 9 July 2019: Kyriakos Pierrakakis, who also serves as Minister for Digital Governance, and . History The position is a development of the Minister without Portfolio (Υπουργός άνευ χαρτοφυλακίου), renamed in 1991. It has no fixed functions, each minister's responsibilities is defined ''ad hoc'' by the Prime Minister in each cabinet. The most usual role is the supervision of the General Secretariat to the Prime Minister and the General Secretariat to the Government, as well as the General Secretariats of Information and of Media, which resulted from the breakup of the former Ministry for the Press and the Media. Georgios Kafantaris
Georgios Kafantaris (alternative spellings: ''Kafandaris''; 13 October 1873 – 28 August 1946) was a Greek politician, born in Anatoliki Fragkista, Evrytania. Biography On 9 January 1919, Kafantaris joined the Cabinet of Greece under Prime Minister of Greece Eleftherios Venizelos as Minister of Agriculture. He went on to disagree with him as far as holding the 1920 Greek legislative election while the Hellenic Army was still involved in the Greco-Turkish War. Venizelos accepted his resignation on 4 February 1920. In the elections that ensued, Venizelos' Liberal Party was ousted. Kafantaris left the country for French Third Republic and the Kingdom of Italy. He only returned following the defeat of Greece in the Greco-Turkish War and was named Minister of Justice. On 19 February 1924, Prime Minister Eleftherios Venizelos resigned due to health reasons and nominated Kafantaris as his successor. Georgios Kartalis ( el, Γεώργιος Καρτάλης, 1908–1957) was a Greek politician. Early life and political career Kartalis was born in Athens to a distinguished family from Volos. He went to school in Geneva and enrolled in the ETH Zürich, only to change after the first year to Economics at the University of Munich and the University of Leipzig. He continued his studies by taking courses in Economy at the London School of Economics (1930–1932) and the University of Kiel (1932–1933). Kartalis returned to Greece in 1933 in order to take up the family's role in the local politics of Volos. He stood unsuccessfully for the city's mayor in 1933, but in the June 1935 elections he was elected as an MP in the People's Party ticket.
