Minister of Religious Affairs is Minister in charge of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Government of Bangladesh. He is also the Minister of all departments and agencies under the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Prior to 1980, religion-related matters were looked after first under the Ministry of Education and later under the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Religion. The United Nations categorizes Bangladesh as a moderate democratic Muslim country. Sunni Islam is the largest and dominant religion practiced in the country. In the Constitution of Bangladesh, Islam is referred to twice in the introduction and Part I of the constitution. Mozammel Haque (born 1 October 1946) is a Bangladesh Awami League politician and the Minister for Liberation War Affairs of Bangladesh since 2014. Motiur Rahman (born 9 July 1942) is a Bangladesh Awami League politician who served as the Minister of Religious Affairs.
