Winston Lackin
Winston Guno Lackin (23 December 1954 – 11 November 2019) was a Surinamese politician. He was Minister of Foreign Affairs of Suriname in the cabinet of President Dési Bouterse between 13 August 2010 and 13 August 2015. Career Lackin was born on 23 December 1954 in Nickerie District. He went to high school in the capital city of Paramaribo. Lackin subsequently studied law at the Anton de Kom University of Suriname. Afterwards he studied at the Rio Branco Institute in Brazil between 1984 and 1986 to prepare for a career in diplomacy. Between 1983 and 1984 Lackin was head of the Europe department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1986 to 1991 he was also employed by the Ministry. In 1991 he became first secretary at the Surinamese embassy at Brasília, Brazil. He stayed there until 1994 when he returned to his job at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Maria Elizabeth (Marie) Levens (born 13 July 1950) is a politician who held the post of Foreign Minister of Suriname for five years (2000–2005). On 16 July 2020, Levens became the Minister of Education, Science & Culture. Biography Levens first studied at the Pedagogical Institute in Suriname, continued to study at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and received her doctorate from the University of Amsterdam. In 1977, she returned to Suriname to teach at the Pedagogical Institute. After having worked in education she joined the board of the Anton de Kom University of Suriname and contributed to the establishment of the school of Educational Sciences. 1990 Surinamese Coup D'état
The 1990 Surinamese coup d'état, usually referred to as the Telephone Coup (), was a military coup in Suriname on 24 December 1990. The coup was carried out by the acting commander-in-chief of the Suriname National Army (SNL), Police Chief Ivan Graanoogst. As a result of the coup, President Ramsewak Shankar was dismissed from power, and parliament and government were disbanded.
