Mingkwan Saengsuwan
Mingkwan Saengsuwan ( th, มิ่งขวัญ แสงสุวรรณ, born 5 February 1952) is a Thai politician. In 2008, he served as Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand and as Minister of Commerce. Early life and education Mingkwan was born on 5 February 1952 in Bangkok, but grew up in the northern region, Chiang Rai. He is the youngest child Of the three siblings, he graduated high school from Wat Nuannoradit School. He received a bachelor's degree in law from Chulalongkorn University and a certificate in Executive Development Program from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, United States. He started working as a salesperson with Toyota Motors Thailand Co., Ltd. later moved up to the marketing department. General elections are scheduled to be held in Thailand on 7 May 2023, after the 25th House of Representatives reaches its four-year term limit. Background Following a political crisis in Thailand, the military staged a coup d'état in 2014, ousting the civilian caretaker government. The military junta, known as the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), rose to power under the leadership of Prayut Chan-o-cha as Prime Minister. In 2016, the NCPO completed the drafting of a new constitution and held a referendum to approve it. They banned criticism of the draft constitution and prohibited monitoring of the referendum. Activists against the document were arrested, detained, and prosecuted in military courts, whilst voters who expressed their intention to vote against the draft were also arrested and prosecuted by the military regime. The People's Power Party (PPP; th, พรรคพลังประชาชน, , ) is a defunct Thai political party. The party leader was Somchai Wongsawat, the Party Secretary General was Surapong Suebwonglee, and the Party Spokesperson was Kuthep Saikrajarng. Most MPs of the party originally hailed from the Thai Rak Thai Party and thus the party was its de facto reincarnation with former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra as its "leader." The PPP had a populist platform and was strong in the North, Central, and Northeastern regions of Thailand. The party became the leader of the coalition government after the junta-government supported 2007 general election. MCOT Public Company Limited (MCOT; th, บริษัท อสมท จำกัด (มหาชน)), formerly known as the Mass Communication Organization of Thailand, is a Thai state-owned public broadcaster.
