History

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has issued an order on establishment of Mingachevir State University. Mingachevir State University will be established on the basis of the Mingachevir Polytechnic Institute under the Education Ministry and ensure staff training on all levels of high education.

Mingachevir
Mingachevir ( az, Mingəçevir ) is the fourth-largest city in Azerbaijan with a population of about 106,000. It's often called the "city of lights" because of its hydroelectric power station on the Kur River, which divides the city down the middle. The current city was founded in 1948, partly by German prisoners of war captured during World War II. Mingechevir is also home to Mingachevir Polytechnic Institute. The city forms an administrative division of Azerbaijan. The district is located 323 km from Baku and 17 km from the Baku-Tbilisi railway. Geographically, the region is located in the center of the republic on both sides of the Kura River. Ilham Heydar oghlu Aliyev ( az, İlham Heydər oğlu Əliyev, ; born 24 December 1961) is the fourth president of Azerbaijan, serving in the post since 31 October 2003. Mingechevir Polytechnic Institute (MPI) ( az, Mingəçevir Politexnik İnstitutu), sometimes written Mingecevir Polytechnic Institute, is a public institute of technology located in Mingechevir, Azerbaijan. It is a coeducational higher education institution, officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan. Mingechevir Politexnik Institutu (MPI) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor's degrees in several areas of study.
