They are also known as cricket frogs or rice frogs. Taxonomy The genus ''Minervarya'' was erected to resolve the paraphyly of the genus ''Fejervarya'' which until 2022, encompassed the species now found in ''Minervarya''. This split was originally proposed in 2018 using the name ''Zakerana'', which is now recognised as a junior synonym to the name ''Minervarya''. ''Minervarya pentali'', or Pental's Minervaryan frog, is a species of frog in the fork-tongued frog family, Dicroglossidae. It is endemic to the Western Ghats in India. Etymology The species is named ''pentali'' after Deepak Pental, plant geneticist and former vice-chancellor of Delhi University, in recognition of his assistance in setting up the Systematics Lab at the university.
