Minenwerfer (band)
Minenwerfer is an American black metal band. It was founded in 2007 in Sacramento, California. History The band started in 2007 as a solo project of Bret Tardiff ("Generalfeldmarschall Kriegshammer"), a multi-instrumentalist. He released a lo-fi Demo (music), demo in December 2007 but had no long-term plans. He was later joined by Patrick Jimmose ("Oberstleutnant Angeltits"). Together, they recorded their debut studio album ''Volkslieder (album), Volkslieder'', which was a major step forward in terms of production quality. They released a split single with the martial industrial band Striider shortly after. Martial industrial elements also appeared on the band's second studio album, ''Nihilistischen'', released in May 2012. An improvement in sound quality was made once again, as the recording took place in a studio. Jimmose was not very active anymore at that point. Marduk is a Swedish black metal band formed in Norrköping in 1990. The band released their debut full-length album, '' Dark Endless'', in 1992 on No Fashion Records. Their name is derived from the Ancient Babylonian deity, Marduk. History Morgan Steinmeyer Håkansson, the band's guitarist, formed Marduk with the intention of being the "most blasphemous band in the world". The Iron Cross (german: link=no, Eisernes Kreuz, , abbreviated EK) was a military decoration in the Kingdom of Prussia, and later in the German Empire (1871–1918) and Nazi Germany (1933–1945). The coat of arms of Austria-Hungary was that country's symbol during its existence from the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867 to its dissolution in 1918. ''Minenwerfer'' ("mine launcher" or "mine thrower") is the German name for a class of short range mine shell launching mortars used extensively during the First World War by the Imperial German Army. The weapons were intended to be used by engineers to clear obstacles including bunkers and barbed wire, that longer range artillery would not be able to target accurately. Background The Germans studied the Siege of Port Arthur, where heavy artillery had been unable to destroy defensive structures like barbed wire and bunkers. Impaled Nazarene is a Finnish extreme metal band that started as black metal but have incorporated elements of grindcore, thrash metal and death metal, and have grown more towards hardcore punk. History The band formed in November 1990, with founding members Mika Luttinen, Kimmo Luttinen, Mika Pääkkö, Ari Holappa and Antti Pihkala. The band gained national success when their debut album, ''Tol Cormpt Norz Norz Norz'', entered the Finnish charts. The band was infamous for their apparent hatred of the Norwegian black metal scene back the early 1990s; however, the band now seems to have disassociated themselves from that dislike.
