Minas Gerais Volleyball Championship
The Minas Gerais Volleyball Championship ( pt, Campeonato Mineiro de Voleibol) is the top level men's and women's volleyball competition in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The first edition happened in 1934 and it has been disputed yearly, with some interruptions. The tournament was initially organized by the ''Minas Gerais Association of General Sports'' (AMEG) ( pt, Associação Mineira de Esportes Gerais). The Federação Mineira de Voleibol, Minas Gerais Volleyball Federation was founded in 1942, and has organized all editions since then. The format and number of participating clubs has varied along the years, and differ between the men's and women's tournament. Though the championship concerns to volleyball teams from Minas Gerais, eventually teams from other states have competed. Sada Cruzeiro Vôlei is a Brazilian professional volleyball team based in Contagem, Minas Gerais, Brazil. They compete in the Brazilian Superliga and were the champions in the 2011–12, 2013–14 and 2014–15 seasons. In 2012, 2014 and 2016 won the South American Championship. History Founded in 2006 in Betim, part of the Belo Horizonte metropolitan area in the state of Minas Gerais, Sada merged with Cruzeiro in 2009 and is now based in neighbouring Contagem. The volleyball team was founded in 2006 as "Sada Betim" and had the Grupo Sada as the main sponsor. Throughout the years, Sada, the company based in Betim, Minas Gerais, has become responsible for managing the "Club", and in 2008 the "Associação Social e Esportiva Sada" was created. Its patrimony comprises two urban units, the Minas I and Minas II, and two country units, Minas Country and Minas Tênis Náutico Clube. Montes Claros is a city located in northern Minas Gerais state, in Brazil. The population is 413,487 (2020 est.) in an area of . It was made a seat of a municipality in 1831 and attained city status in 1857. History The region was originally inhabited by the and Amerindians. The first Portuguese settlers arrived in this region during the eighteenth century. In 1707 they formed three great ranches: Jaiba, Olhos d'Água and Montes Claros.
