Governorates Of Kuwait
Kuwait is divided into 6 governorates (''muhafazah''). The governorates are further subdivided into areas. The governorate is headed by a Governor appointed by a ministerial decree for a period of 4 years which can be renewed upon the proposal of the Prime Minister. History The beginning of the formation of governorates in the State of Kuwait started back in 1962 with the Emiri decree No. 6 which divided the Kuwait into three governorates i.e. Al Asimah Governorate, Ḩawallī Governorate and Al Aḩmadi Governorate. Later, Jahra Governorate, Farwaniya Governorate and Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate were formed in 1979, 1988 and 1999 respectively. Wafra
Wafra ( ar, links=no, الوفرة) is the southernmost area in Kuwait, within the boundaries of the former Saudi–Kuwaiti neutral zone. It is part of Ahmadi Governorate, and is well known for its fertile soil and farms. It is parallel with the Kuwait–Saudi Arabia border. Wafra and Abdali to the north are the only two cities in Kuwait known for farming and the livestock. Farms in Wafra are fed by groundwater. The farms have a very original cone-shaped mud dovecotes with hundreds of birds. People tend to visit the Wafra Market to buy fresh vegetables. Sabah Al Ahmad Sea City
Sabah Al Ahmad Sea City is a city in Ahmadi, Kuwait built with canals forming of artificial shoreline. The city houses up to 250,000 residents. The city was inaugurated in mid 2016. The artificial islands that make up the area are unusual because they were built excavating large channels in desert land rather than using reclaimed land. The city is considered a pioneering project in the region due to its environmentally sustainable construction techniques. The first phase of the project was opened to the sea in 2004. The multi-billion dollar development is within a 25-year construction period with ten phases. Sabah Al Ahmad Sea City is the first urban area in Kuwait built entirely by the private sector. Mangaf ( ar, المنقف) is an area in the south of Kuwait City. It is a mix of old and new. The old is split into two areas; commercial and residential. Government housing from the 1980s formed the area with houses, while the rest was a large collection of residential tower blocks, a limited number of shops and fast-food places. There is a larger concentration of shops in the area locally known as Al Azeeziya. A concentration of mobile phone shops, computers, and more. It also has a branch of the Sultan Center chain. Mangaf now has many fast food chains such as KFC, Hardee's along with other famous restaurants such as Minutes, Steek, Bustan Al Turkey Restaurant etc. The suburb has witnessed a huge expansion with the additional area being mainly residential. Mahboula
Mahboula ( ar , text=المهبولة , lit=mad woman) is a Kuwaiti district on the Persian Gulf, south of Kuwait City. It is located in the Ahmadi Governorate between Fintās and Abu Halifa. In the mid-2000s, Mahboula was essentially "uninhabited, with a few old buildings and unsafe streets." In 2013, the Kuwait Oil Company announced plans to expand their business, and this led to an explosion of residential development of adjacent areas—including Mahboula.
