Mimosas (film)
''Mimosas'' (original title: ''Mimosas'') is a 2016 drama film directed and co-written by Oliver Laxe, described by Laxe as 'a Religious Western'. The film is a co-production between Spain, Morocco, France and Qatar. It was screened in the International Critics' Week section at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival where it won the Nespresso Grand Prize. The film shares some footage with Ben Rivers's ''The Sky Trembles and the Earth is Afraid and the Two Eyes Are Not Brothers'' and an installation by Artangel that accompanied it: Rivers's film portrays a high-handed Western film-maker working in North Africa, and uses footage of the making of ''Mimosas''. In the assessment of Jonathan Romney, 'this is partly a consummate figures-in-a-landscape study, with characters – and their accompanying mules – often merging into the vastness of a varied, but usually profoundly inhospitable landscape. Oliver Laxe
Óliver Laxe Coro (born 11 April 1982) is a French-born Spanish film director, screenwriter and actor of Galician ancestry. His debut feature film '' You All Are Captains'' premiered at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the FIPRESCI Prize. His third film ''Fire Will Come'' was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Jury Prize. Early life Laxe was born in Paris, the son of Galician emigrants. In 1988, at the age of six, he went back with them to Galicia. After completing his secondary education in A Coruña he moved to Barcelona where he studied filmmaking at the Pompeu Fabra University, before relocating to London where he filmed his first short ''Y las chimeneas decidieron escapar''. Skoura
Skoura (Berber: ⵙⴽⵓⵔⴰ, ar, سكورة) is a town in Ouarzazate Province, Drâa-Tafilalet, Morocco. It consists of a modern town as well as a historical oasis and palmeraie with traditional rammed-earth architecture. Geography Skoura consists of a historic fertile oasis lined with immense palm groves (a "palmeraie"), existing at the confluence of several rivers and streams descending from the central High Atlas mountains. Within the oasis, a few of these rivers join together to form the river known as Oued el-Hajjaj, which in turn joins the Oued Dadès (Dadès River) a short distance further south. The main modern town of Skoura today exists on the eastern edge of the oasis, along the main road from Ouarzazate. Skoura is also the name of a Geological Basin.
