Ora Carew
Ora Carew (born Ora Whytock; April 19, 1891 – October 26, 1955), was an American silent film actress. She starred in several films between 1915 and 1925. She was known as one of the Sennett Bathing Beauties. Early life Ora Whytock was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to James Whytock and Evelyn Carn Whytock (1865–1942). She had an older sister, Evelyn Whytock Lehners (1887–1961), who became a music composer, and a younger brother, Grant Whytock (1894–1981), who became a film editor. Ora's birth year has been listed as 1893, on her death certificate and is also what her grave says, but Utah birth index and the 1900 census indicate 1891. She was educated by private tutors and at Roland Hall Seminary. After her father died on June 19, 1896, her mother moved with her three children to California. ''The Woman and the Puppet'' is a 1920 American silent film starring Geraldine Farrar and Lou Tellegen that was directed by Reginald Barker and produced by Samuel Goldwyn. Plot Based upon a review in a film publication, Don Mateo (Tellegen) attempts to bribe the mother (Dione) of Concha Perez (Farrar) so that he can use her as his toy, but Concha leaves and becomes a cigarette girl who dances at a wharf cafe. When Don Mateo discovers her there dancing for some Englishmen, he no longer believes that she is the virtuous maiden who spurned his advances. Concha convinces him that his suspicions are wrong and unwarranted. The Don is a conceited person used to adulation of senoritas, and when Concha leads him on a chase and vamps him, he becomes enraptured. The lovers then have a series of quarrels, jealousies, and other mishaps until they reach a final understanding. ''The Dixie Handicap'' is a 1924 American silent drama film directed by Reginald Barker. The film stars Claire Windsor, Lloyd Hughes, and Otis Harlan. It is written by Waldemar Young. Plot As described in a review in a film magazine, Judge Roberts (Keenan), greatly reduced in circumstances, hides his true financial condition from his daughter Virginia. He raises her in luxury by continuingly selling parts of his estate, until all he has left are his old home and his racing mare Southern Melody, who is about to have a colt. Through the carelessness of a stable boy, the mare wanders away and the colt is born in a rainstorm and nearly dies from exposure. When a wild cat attacks, the mare gives her life to save her colt. Dexter (St. Polis), trainer for a millionaire who owns an adjacent training stable, loves Virginia and tells her of her father's poverty.
