Milton Hopkins (biologist)
Milton Hopkins, Jr. (1906–1983) was an American historian, professor of biology, and an editor of college textbooks. Biography In 1917 Milton Hopkins, Jr. moved with his family to Port Washington, New York and attended elementary school and high school there. In 1930 he received his bachelor's degree from Amherst College. After graduating with M.A. and Ph.D. in biology from Harvard University, he was a professor of biology from 1936 to 1945 at the University of Oklahoma. In 1944 he married Elizabeth Robbins Hewlett. In 1945 they returned to the Port Washington area to live in the Hewlett homestead. Located in the Village of Flower Hill, the home was built in the early 1700s and occupied by eight generations of the Hewlett family before being sold to the real estate developer Ivo Matkovic. Glen Cove, Long Island
Glen Cove is a city in Nassau County, New York, United States, on the North Shore of Long Island. At the 2020 United States Census, the city population was 28,365 as of the 2020 census. The city was considered part of the early 20th century Gold Coast of the North Shore, as the areas along the waterfront were developed as large country estates by wealthy entrepreneurs and businessmen such as J.P. Morgan, Phipps, Pratt, and Prybil. Glen Cove also had manufacturing and a diverse population that worked in industry, local agriculture and retail businesses. Of Nassau County's five municipalities, Glen Cove is one of the two municipalities that is a city, rather than a town, the other being Long Beach on the South Shore. Holt McDougal is an American publishing company, a division of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, that specializes in textbooks for use in high schools. Flower Hill is a village in Nassau County, on the North Shore of Long Island, in New York, United States. The eastern half is considered part of the Greater Roslyn area, which is anchored by the Incorporated Village of Roslyn.
