Million Tongues Festival
Million Tongues Festival is a Chicago-based music festival organized by artist, writer, and musician, Plastic Crimewave often hosted by Empty Bottle. The festival showcases national and international folk, experimental and "cult" musicians from the '60s, '70s, '80s and beyond. Plastic Crimewave
Plastic Crimewave (born Steven H. Krakow), otherwise known as Steve Krakow, is a Chicago-based illustrator and writer, avant-garde musician, music historian and impresario. He is the editor of Drag City-published magazine ''Galactic Zoo Dossier'', eponymous front man for Plastic Crimewave Syndicate and co-member of Spiral Galaxy, founder of the Million Tongues Festival, and Vision Celestial Guitarkestra. He writes and illustrates the "Secret History of Chicago Music" comic in the ''Chicago Reader'' and co-hosts WGN-AM's Secret History of Chicago Music series. He runs the Drag City imprint label, Galactic Zoo Disk and Guerssen records imprint Galactic Zoo Archive. Bert Jansch
Herbert Jansch (3 November 1943 – 5 October 2011) was a Scottish folk musician and founding member of the band Pentangle. He was born in Glasgow and came to prominence in London in the 1960s as an acoustic guitarist and singer-songwriter. He recorded more than 28 albums and toured extensively from the 1960s to the 21st century. Jansch was a leading figure in the 1960s British folk revival, touring folk clubs and recording several solo albums, as well as collaborating with other musicians such as John Renbourn and Anne Briggs. In 1968, he co-founded the band Pentangle, touring and recording with them until their break-up in 1972. He then took a few years' break from music, returning in the late 1970s to work on a series of projects with other musicians. Peter Walker (guitarist)
Peter Walker is an American folk guitarist noted for virtuosic performances fusing the Indian classical and Spanish flamenco traditions. Walker was recognized principally for his recorded output in the mid-to-late sixties. His status has risen following his rediscovery by younger generations of American and European outsider folk artists. Today, he is placed among the ranks of notable American finger-pickers Sandy Bull, John Fahey, Robbie Basho and Leo Kottke. This new esteem has granted him a renewed platform for both touring and recording. Life and career Walker was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1938, into a musical family. Michael Chapman (singer)
Michael Chapman (24 January 1941 – 10 September 2021) was a British singer-songwriter and virtuosic guitar player. Chapman originally began playing guitar with jazz bands, mainly in his home town of Leeds in the West Riding of Yorkshire. He became well known in the folk clubs of the late 1960s, as well as on the ' progressive' music scene, and released over 50 albums. In 2016, Chapman celebrated fifty years as a professional musician. Towards the end of his life he still played professionally and regularly toured in the UK, Europe and US. Biography Chapman was born in Hunslet, Leeds, Yorkshire. He attended art college in Leeds and then worked as an art and photography teacher at Bolton College, Lancashire. LSD March
LSD March is a Japanese psychedelic rock group, hailing from the city of Himeji, led by singer and guitarist Shinsuke Michishita. The group is named after a track by krautrock group Guru Guru. Michishita has also played with Magura Mozart and Doodles. In 2009, Michishita began the psych-folk group, Kasumi Trio. The other members are Ikuro Takahashi (from Fushitsusha, Nagisa ni te) and Takashi Ueno. Michael Yonkers
Michael Yonkers (born 1947) is an American rock musician from Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. His work has been praised for its groundbreaking and highly experimental nature; Cole Alexander of psychedelic-rock band Black Lips said that Yonkers “kind of invented noise and drone guitar techniques," stating further that "when you think of how The Who, Jimi Hendrix and The Velvet Underground were pushing feedback at the time, he was more extreme than all three combined in terms of what he was doing.” However, his work did not reach a wide audience until decades after he began recording, due in part to a debilitating spinal injury that kept him in constant, lifelong pain. His most well-known work is a psychedelic rock record from 1968 called ''Microminiature Love'', which was released on vinyl by De Stijl records in 2002, and later Sub Pop, who released it on CD in July 2003. Simon Finn (musician)
Simon Finn is an English psychedelic folk musician. Finn was born 4 March 1951 in Godalming, Surrey. He moved to London in 1967, where his first performance was opening for Al Stewart at the Marquee Club in Soho. He released his ''Pass the Distance'' LP in 1970, which in later years attained legendary status as it was so hard to obtain. The album featured contributions from Robert Buckland, Paul Burwell, Ken Elliot, and David Toop. "Pass the Distance" was remastered and re-released on Durtro/Jnana records in 2004 and again in 2008 on vinyl by Mayfair Music. In the same year, after a thirty-five-year absence from the music scene, he began touring again. His first performance was in support of the band Current 93 at St George the Martyr Church in Toronto in June 2004. Terry Reid
Terrance James Reid (born 13 November 1949) is an English rock vocalist and guitarist. He has performed with high-profile musicians, as a supporting act, session musician, and sideman. Biography Reid was born in Paxton Park Maternity Home, Little Paxton, St Neots, Huntingdonshire, England. He lived in the village of Bluntisham and attended St Ivo School, St Ives. After leaving school at the age of fifteen, Reid joined Peter Jay and the Jaywalkers after being spotted by the band's drummer, Peter Jay. At the time, Reid was playing for a local band, The Redbeats, who regularly performed at the River Club in St Ives. His public profile was enhanced in 1966 when The Jaywalkers were named as a supporting act for the Rolling Stones during their 23-show British Tour from September to October 1966.
