Little Piney Creek is a stream in the Phelps, Texas and Dent counties of the Ozarks of southern Missouri. It is a tributary of the Gasconade River. Coordinates of the stream source are: and of the confluence with the Gasconade are: . The stream headwaters are in northeastern Texas County about one mile southeast of the community of Maples. The stream flows northwest into southeastern Phelps County and flows north parallel to U. S. Route 63 passing just east of the community of Craddock and Edgar Springs. The stream course meanders across the Phelps - Dent County line a few times finally turning northwest and crossing under U.S. 63 at Yancy Mills. The stream meanders north through the Mark Twain National Forest and turns west at the confluence with Beaver Creek. The stream continues to the west passing Newburg and under Interstate 44 to its confluence with the Gasconade River at Jerome. Interstate 44 (I-44) is a major Interstate Highway in the central United States. Although it is nominally an east–west road as it is even-numbered, it follows a more southwest–northeast alignment. Newburg, Missouri
Newburg is a city in Phelps County, Missouri, United States. The population was 470 at the 2010 census. History Newburg was founded in 1883 by St. Louis – San Francisco Railway as a division point for the railroad, where engines would stop for repairs and to change crews. It is currently used heavily by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as a maintenance stop, with a large supply of railroad materials along the double tracks. Iron working was attempted twice in Newburg. Easy access to the railroad made heavy industry a viable business. Construction of the Ozark Iron Works began after 1867, but the business went bankrupt in 1877. The Knotwell Iron Company attempted to use the facilities in 1880, but quit shortly afterwards due to a severe drop in iron prices. After World War II, the railway switched from coal to diesel engines, which could run much longer distances without refueling.
