The Military Office of the President of the Slovak Republic ( Slovak: Vojenská kancelária prezidenta Slovenskej republiky) is the official military department of the President of the Slovak Republic. The office's main activities is aiding the Slovakian President in his/her duties as commander in chief of the Slovak Armed Forces. It's everyday duties also include: * Communicating military orders to the armed forces * Advise the president on national security and local security issues * Approves and issues the organisational rules of the military office * Grants honorary or historic names to military units * Grants battle flags to military units The subordinate unit of the office is the Honour Guard of the President of the Slovak Republic which is the president's ceremonial military unit. Slovak () , is a West Slavic language of the Czech–Slovak group, written in Latin script. The president of the Slovak Republic ( sk, Prezident Slovenskej republiky) is the head of state of Slovakia and the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces. The president is directly elected by the people for five years, and can be elected for a maximum of two consecutive terms. The presidency is largely a ceremonial office, but the president does exercise certain limited powers with absolute discretion. The president's official residence is the Grassalkovich Palace in Bratislava. History of the office The office was established by the constitution of Slovakia on 1 January 1993 when Slovakia permanently split from Czechoslovakia and became independent. The office was vacant until 2 March 1993, when the first president Michal Kováč was elected by the National Council of Slovak Republic. The Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic were divided from the Czechoslovak army after dissolution of Czechoslovakia on 1 January 1993. Slovakia joined NATO on 29 March 2004. From 2006 the army transformed into a fully professional organization and compulsory military service was abolished. Slovak armed forces numbered 19,500 uniformed personnel and 4,208 civilians in 2022. Honour Guard Of The President Of The Slovak Republic
The Honour Guard of the President is the official ceremonial honor guard unit of the President of Slovakia, under the direct command of the Military Office of the President of the Slovak Republic. Background The first ceremonial unit, the 318th Guard Battalion, was established in Bratislava on the basis of the order of the Ministry of National Defense of Czechoslovakia on 27 October 1968. In addition to being and honor guard for the leadership of the Slovak Socialist Republic, it also performed guard services for the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and the Government of Czechoslovakia. After the establishment of the Slovak Republic om New Years Day in 1993, the battalion was transformed into the Castle Guard Regiment, which provided a public duties detachment which would become a separate unit on 1 March 1993. The Security Council of the Slovak Republic (Bezpečnostná rada Slovenskej republiky, SRB) is the advisory body of the Government of the Slovak Republic, which is involved in the development and implementation of the security system and military policy of the country. It prepares proposals for the government to take measures to safeguard the security of the country, to prevent crisis situations, as well as proposals for solving the crisis situation. The Security Council of the SRB currently has 9 permanent members, with the acting prime minister (currently Eduard Heger) being the chairman. Grassalkovich Palace
The Grassalkovich Palace ( sk, Grasalkovičov palác) is a palace in Bratislava and the residence of the president of Slovakia. It is situated on Hodžovo námestie, near the Summer Archbishop's Palace. The building is a Rococo-late Baroque summer palace with a French garden. History The building was finished in 1760, by architect Anton Mayerhofer for Hungarian aristocrat Antal Grassalkovich, a close friend of Maria Theresa. It features many rooms and an impressive staircase. The chapel is decorated with frescoes by Joseph von Pichler. The building became a center of Baroque musical life in Pozsony. Joseph Haydn premiered some of his works here. Count Grassalkovich also had his orchestra and his "colleague", Prince Esterházy, used to "lend" him his favorite conductor, Haydn.
