Miles High Music Books
Miles High Records, is an independent jazz record label founded in 2010 by vibraphonist Mark Sherman. The record label's subsidiary, Miles High Music Books, publishes music education books, most by Sherman, who is on the jazz faculty at The Juilliard School in Manhattan. Mark Sherman (musician)
Mark Sherman (born April 17, 1957) is a jazz vibraphonist, pianist, drummer, producer, arranger, author, and classical percussionist. Sherman has performed for some of the world's top orchestral conductors including Leonard Bernstein, Sir Georg Solti, Zubin Mehta and Herbert Von Karajan, in Jazz as a leader and sideman with Kenny Barron, Peggy Lee, Wynton Marsalis, Joe Lovano, Michael Brecker, Larry Coryell and many more. He worked in Broadway musicals, and has been one of the most in-demand studio musicians, appearing on more than two dozen film and Broadway soundtracks including ''The Lion King''. He has worked as a sideman for pop artists Michael Bolton, Natalie Cole, and Michael McDonald. The Juilliard School
The Juilliard School ( ) is a private performing arts conservatory in New York City. Established in 1905, the school trains about 850 undergraduate and graduate students in dance, drama, and music. Dan Block
Daniel Block is an American jazz clarinetist who has worked with artists such as Charles Mingus, Toshiko Akiyoshi and Gerry Mulligan. He is a member of the Marty Grosz Band, and also can be found in the pits of various Broadway shows in New York City. Early life and education Block is a native of St. Louis. He earned a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music from the Juilliard School. Career As a student at Juilliard, Block became involved in the New York City jazz scene. He participated in the recording process of ''Something Like a Bird ''Something Like a Bird'' is an album by Charles Mingus, released on the Atlantic label in 1981. Sinan Alimanović
Sinan Alimanović (born 11 February 1954) is a Bosnian jazz pianist, organist, composer, conductor, arranger and educator. Biography Sinan Alimanović has worked with American and European jazz musicians such as Randy Brecker, Harvie S, Duško Gojković, Erich Kleinschuster, Alex Blake, Victor Lewis, Barbara Hendricks, Gianni Basso, Aladar Pege, Vaclav Zahradnik, Lee Harper, Csaba Deseo, Jim Mullen, Robert Balzar, Jože Privšek, Miljenko Prohaska, Tony Lakatos, Tony Fisher, Ladislav Fidri, Stjepko Gut, Petar Ugrin, Bobby Sanabria and many others. Sinan Alimanović studied at the Academy of Music in Skopje, Priština, and Sarajevo. Jazz Record Labels
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. Jazz is characterized by swing and blue notes, complex chords, call and response vocals, polyrhythms and improvisation. Jazz has roots in European harmony and African rhythmic rituals. As jazz spread around the world, it drew on national, regional, and local musical cultures, which gave rise to different styles.
