Milburn Akers
Milburn Peter Akers (May 4, 1900 – May 27, 1970), often known as Pete Akers, was a Chicago journalist, chairman of the board of trustees of McKendree College, and the ninth president of Shimer College. Akers was born in Chicago and graduated from McKendree College, of which his great-grandfather had been the first president. In his early life, he worked as a staff reporter for newspapers including the '' Peoria Transcript'' and '' Illinois State Register''. He served as the publicity man for Governor Henry Horner from 1937 to Horner's death in 1940. Akers joined the ''Chicago Sun'', later the ''Chicago Sun-Times'', shortly after its founding in 1941. He became executive editor of the ''Sun-Times'' in 1950, rising from the position of managing editor; his position became simply "editor" after the departure of Marshall Field III from that position. Tiny Croft
Milburn Russell "Tiny" Croft (November 7, 1920 – January 22, 1977) was an American football offensive tackle in the National Football League for the Green Bay Packers 1942-1947. He played college football at Ripon College (Wisconsin), Ripon College. Croft was NFL Draft, drafted in the 20th round of the 1942 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins. Football career Croft graduated from Steinmetz High School, Steinmentz High School in Chicago, Illinois. He was selected to an all-star team of high school players from Chicago to travel to Arizona for a game against an all-star team of Phoenix area players. Croft then attended Ripon College. Despite his size, Croft was known as gentle on the football field. The Ripon coaches set up a boxing match with a semi-professional boxer who promptly punched Croft in the nose which angered him. Milburn Price
Milburn Price, born 9 April 1938 in Electric Mills, Mississippi, has served most recently as Dean of the School of Performing Arts at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama from 1993 to 2006. Following his retirement, he continued to conduct the Samford Orchestra and to teach one church music course each semester until 2011. Prior to moving to Samford, he served as Dean of the School of Church Music at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky from 1981 to 1993. Earlier he was Chair of the Music Department at Furman University from 1972 to 1981. During the 2011–2012 academic year he was Visiting Professor and Acting Chair of Choral Music at Stetson University. Subsequent appointments as Visiting Professor include Mercer University (2013–2014) and Mississippi College (2014–2015). Milt Shoffner
Milburn James Shoffner (November 13, 1905 – January 19, 1978) was a Major League Baseball pitcher. He played seven years in the majors, from 1929 until 1931, then again from 1937 until 1940. Shoffner debuted in the majors with the Cleveland Indians in 1929 and pitched three seasons for them. In 1930 and 1931, his ERA was over 7.00, and by mid-season he was pitching for the Toledo Mud Hens. Shoffner did not return to the major leagues until 1937, with the Boston Bees. That season, he made six appearances—five of them starts—with an impressive 2.53 ERA. That performance led to a larger role on the 1938 team, and while his performance slipped a bit, his record was a respectable 8–7 with a 3.54 ERA. Despite getting off to a good start in 1939, Shoffner was waived by the Bees and claimed by the Cincinnati Reds. Milburn Albert "Catfish" Smith (July 24, 1912 – November 29, 1994) was an American football and basketball coach in the state of Texas. Smith began his coaching career in rural West Texas, where in 1936 he led Carey High, a school with less than one hundred enrollment and no basketball court, to a fourth-place finish in the Texas Schoolboy state basketball tournament, including a twenty-six-game winning streak. He followed that with a 50–2 season and the state championship, back when the smallest schools competed against the largest for the coveted title. In 1943 he was called to Mount Vernon, Texas to temporarily fill a coaching vacancy. Hugh Milburn Stone (July 5, 1904 – June 12, 1980) was an American actor, best known for his role as "Doc" (Dr. Galen Adams) on the CBS Western series ''Gunsmoke''. Early life Stone was born in Burrton, Kansas, to Herbert Stone and the former Laura Belfield. There, he graduated from Burrton High School, where he was active in the drama club, played basketball, and sang in a barbershop quartet.
