Milbrulong
Milbrulong is a locality in the central east part of the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. The locality is south west of the state capital, Sydney and south west of the regional centre Wagga Wagga in the Lockhart Shire local government area. The standard gauge Oaklands railway line passes through the locality. The Milbrulong State Forest is located nearby. At the 2006 census, Milbrulong had a population of 366. History The place name ''Milbrulong'' is derived from the local Wiradjuri word ''mulbirrang'' meaning " Rosella parrot". Milbrulong Post Office opened on 7 August 1899 and closed in 1976. In May, 1900 Mr .J. H. Menz opened his new hotel at Milbrulong and opposite the proposed site of Milbrulong railway station. The Milbrulong Railway Station was opened in late 1900. Central Riverina Football League
The Central Riverina Football League was a minor Australian rules football competition which ran from 1949 until 1981 in the Riverina region of New South Wales. The league contained a number of historic clubs, many of which no longer exist. History There was a Central Riverina Football League that was formed in 1907 in Narrandra, that was made up from the Coolamon, Hay and Narrandra football clubs. The Central Riverina Football League (CRFL) was formed in 1949 at the annual general meeting of the Milbrulong & District Football League, when it was decided to change its name to the Central Riverina Football League. The Milbrulong Football Association was reformed in 1945, after a five-year break due to World War Two and was active up until 1948, when the name change took place in early 1949. Milbrulong State Forest
Milbrulong State Forest is a native forest, located in the South Western Slopes region of New South Wales, in eastern Australia. The state forest consists of two sections located apart, with the largest (approx. 355 hectares) located east of Milbrulong, and the smaller section (approx. 20 hectares) is located north-west of The Rock. Etymology The place name ''Milbrulong'' is derived from the local Wiradjuri word ''mulbirrang'' meaning " Rosella parrot". Environment Flora 127 plant species have been recorded within the state forest, of which 90 were native, and 37 were introduced. At least 95 percent of the forest within the state forest is dominated by white cypress pine. Other large tree species present within the forest include White box, Yellow box and Bulloak. Lockhart Shire
Lockhart Shire is a local government area in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. The Shire was created in 1906 and is an agricultural and pastoral area. The main towns and villages in the Shire include Lockhart (950 people), The Rock (860), Yerong Creek (145), Pleasant Hills (130) and Milbrulong (35). It has 1302 rural residents. The mayor of Lockhart Shire is yet to be determined following the 2012 local government election. Gordon McLaurin
Gordon Ranald McLaurin (1862 – 13 October 1917) was an Australian politician. Biography McLaurin was born near Holbrook to Isabella Rankin and James McLaurin, a pastoralist and politician. He was educated by a private tutor while growing up on his father's station, after which he worked for Goldsbrough Mort & Co. In 1891 he purchased his father's land. McLaurin's father had briefly been a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for The Hume, and Gordon also became a member of the Legislative Assembly representing The Hume, winning the seat at the 1901 by-election as the Progressive candidate. He transferred to Albury in 1904 and after the collapse of his party was one of few Progressives not to join the Liberal Party, continuing in parliament as an Independent Liberal. Eastern Rosella
The eastern rosella (''Platycercus eximius'') is a rosella native to southeastern Australia and Tasmania. It has been introduced to New Zealand where feral populations are found in the North Island (notably in the northern half of the island, Taranaki, Waikato and in the Hutt Valley) and in the hills around Dunedin in the South Island. Taxonomy The eastern rosella was named by George Shaw in 1792. It is sometimes considered a subspecies of the pale-headed rosella (''P. adscitus''). The term 'white-cheeked rosella' has been used for a species or superspecies combining the pale-headed and eastern forms.
