The Derby della Madonnina, also known as the Derby di Milano (Milan Derby, in English), is a derby football match between the two prominent Milanese clubs, Internazionale and A.C. Milan. It is called ''Derby della Madonnina'' in honour of one of the main sights in the city of Milan, the statue of the Virgin Mary on the top of the Duomo, which is often referred to as the ("Little Madonna" in Italian). In the past, Internazionale (commonly abbreviated to Inter) was seen as the club of the Milan bourgeoisie (nicknamed , a Milanese term meaning "braggart"), whereas Milan (nicknamed , meaning "screwdriver" in Lombard language, with reference to the blue-collar worker) was supported mainly by working class. Milanese Dialect
Milanese (endonym in traditional orthography , ') is the central variety of the Western dialect of the Lombard language spoken in Milan, the rest of its metropolitan city, and the northernmost part of the province of Pavia. Milanese, due to the importance of Milan, the largest city in Lombardy, is considered one of the most prestigious Lombard variants and the most prestigious one in the Western Lombard area. In Italian-language contexts, Milanese is often (like most things spoken in Italy other than standard Italian) called a "dialect" of Italian. Alfred Ormond Edwards (12 October 1850 – 4 April 1923) was an English businessman and football pioneer. In 1899, he was one of the founding fathers and first chairman of Italian football club A.C. Milan under the original name of Milan Foot-Ball and Cricket Club. Biography Alfred Ormond Edwards was born on 12 October 1850, in Skyborry, Shropshire, England, which is near Knighton, Powys on the border of England and Wales. Herbert Kilpin
Herbert Kilpin (24 January 1870 – 22 October 1916) was an English football player and manager, best known as the main founding father of AC Milan. After playing as an amateur in his native city of Nottingham, in the early 1890s he moved to Italy to work in the textile industry and he became one of the pioneers of football in the country, first as a player for Internazionale Torino and then as player, manager, and charter member of Milan.
