Mikhail Kollontay
Mikhail Georgiyevich Kollontay (russian: link=no, Михаи́л Гео́ргиевич Коллонта́й; born August 21, 1952 in Moscow), Russian composer and pianist. Also known under his mother's name, Ermolaev. His father, Georgiy Fyodorovich Kollontay (1897–1954), an artist, was sent to the camps in 1938 (released in 1946, rehabilitated posthumously); his mother, Ekaterina Ilyinichna Ermolaeva (1922–2001), was a translator (English, modern Greek). In 2022, Kollontay became citizen of Republic of China. Biography In 1971 graduated from the Music College attached to the Moscow Conservatory with a double major in piano and in theory/composition. In 1977 received his diploma in piano from the Moscow Conservatory, studying under Professor V. V. Gornostayeva; continued as her assistant in 1979. Mikhail Anatolyevich Svetlov (born Krutikov; russian: Михаил Анатольевич Светлов) is a Russian bass known for the range and beauty of his voice as well as his acting ability. His voice was described by ''The Washington Post'' as a "titanic, all-encompassing bass". Elena Kuschnerova ( rus, Еле́на Ефи́мовна Кушнеро́ва, Yelena Yefimovna Kushnerova; born 6 January 1959 in Moscow) is a Russian-born classical pianist. Biography Elena Kuschnerova was born into a musical family in Moscow. She began her piano education at the age of five with her mother. At seven, she became a student of Tatyana Kestner at the Moscow Central Music School. At the age of nine, Kuschnerova made her first appearance with orchestra conducted by Aram Khachaturian playing Bach's Keyboard Concerto No. 5 in F minor, which was recorded by Radio Moscow. Upon graduation she studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Sergei Dorensky. After receiving her diploma (with honors) in 1982, she went on tour in the Soviet Union for the next eight years. Alexei Kornienko (russian: Алексей Корниенко, born 5 May 1954 in Moscow) is an Austrian conductor and pianist of Russian descent. Biography Kornienko's musical education started at the age of 5. After musical studies in Kharkov and in Kiev Kornienko entered the '' Moscow P.I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory'' in 1972 to study in the piano class of Yakov Zak. Freddy Cadena (born 1963) is an Ecuadorian orchestra conductor, who is currently resides in Russia. From 2000 to 2006 he taught at Moscow Conservatory. He is a founder and a chief conductor of Amadeus Chamber Orchestra of Moscow Composers' Union. Education Freddy Cadena began his musical studies at Quito National Conservatory. Andrey Boreyko (russian: Андре́й Ви́кторович Боре́йко, Andrey Viktorovich Boreyko, pl, Andrzej Borejko; born 22 July 1957) is a Polish-Russian conductor. He has Polish ancestry on his father's side and Russian ancestry on his mother's side. Boreyko was born in Saint Petersburg. Biography Yuri Bashmet was born on 24 January 1953 in Rostov-on-Don in the family of Abram Borisovich Bashmet and Maya Zinovyeva Bashmet (née Krichever). Modal Music
In music theory, the term mode or ''modus'' is used in a number of distinct senses, depending on context. Its most common use may be described as a type of musical scale coupled with a set of characteristic melodic and harmonic behaviors. It is applied to major and minor keys as well as the seven diatonic modes (including the former as Ionian and Aeolian) which are defined by their starting note or tonic. ( Olivier Messiaen's modes of limited transposition are strictly a scale type.) Related to the diatonic modes are the eight church modes or Gregorian modes, in which authentic and plagal forms of scales are distinguished by ambitus and tenor or reciting tone.
