Mike Young (cricket)
Mike Young (born December 21, 1955) is a former Australian cricket team fielding coach, as well as a former US minor league and Australian baseball manager, player and coach. Playing career Young attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and he was the team's MVP in 1978. After graduation, he managed to land a contract to play in the Netherlands Honkbal Hoofdklasse baseball league and he played there in 1979 and 1980 and realized that there were other opportunities for American players to ply their skills around the globe. He sent his resume around and was contacted in 1981 by the Queensland Rams, an Australian Baseball League team, which he also player-coached and led to a national championship (the Claxton Shield) in 1982. Wausau Timbers
The Wausau Timbers were a minor league baseball team, located in Wausau, Wisconsin. The Timbers were members of the Class A Midwest League from 1975 to 1990. The franchise was sold in 1991 and moved to Geneva, Illinois, where it became the Kane County Cougars. History The franchise first played 1975 in Wausau as the Wausau Mets. The club maintained an affiliation with the New York Mets through 1978. Without an affiliation the team changed its name to the Timbers and played two years as a co-op with players mainly from the Cleveland Indians, Texas Rangers, and Seattle Mariners. In 1981 the club signed a played development contract with the Mariners. The affiliation with the Mariners lasted nine seasons. Shayne Anthony Bennett (born 10 April 1972) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for North Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL), and was a right-handed baseball pitcher, who last played in Major League Baseball with the Montreal Expos on 15 August 1999. The youngest brother to fellow North Adelaide footballer Peter Bennett, Shayne was a leading junior footballer for North Adelaide and was drafted by Victorian Football League (VFL) team Collingwood at the 1989 VFL Draft with the 56th selection. Cam Cairncross
Cameron Cairncross (born 11 May 1972) is a former left-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball who debuted for the Cleveland Indians on 20 July 2000, and pitched his final game on 1 October of that same season. Cairncross was born in Cairns, Queensland, Australia and attended Cairns State High School. He signed with the San Diego Padres as an amateur free agent in 1990, and began his professional career a year later with the Charleston Rainbows. For the season, he had an 8–5 win–loss record and a 3.56 earned run average (ERA) in 24 games. The following season, Cairncross pitched for the Waterloo Diamonds and had an 8–8 record, a 3.61 ERA, and 138 strikeouts in 24 games. Mark Hutton
Mark Steven Hutton (born 6 February 1970) is an Australian former right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball. Hutton made his major league debut as a starting pitcher in 1993 for the New York Yankees, five years after moving to the United States. He was later traded to the Florida Marlins, then to Colorado Rockies and finally to the Reds. Granted free agency, he signed for Tampa Bay, but never appeared for the Devil Rays in the major league, nor for an affiliated team in the minors. David Wayne Nilsson (born 14 December 1969) is an Australian retired professional baseball catcher and current manager of the Australia national baseball team and the Brisbane Bandits. He played for Major League Baseball's Milwaukee Brewers from to and was an All-Star in 1999, becoming the first Australian player to appear in an All-Star game. He ended his Major League career on 3 October 1999 with 837 games played, 789 hits, 105 home runs and a .284 career batting average. The Australian national baseball team represents Australia in international baseball tournaments and competitions. It is ranked as the top team in Oceania, and is the Oceanian Champion, having been awarded the title in 2007 when New Zealand withdrew from the Oceania Baseball Championship.
