Mike Shoemaker
Michael C. Shoemaker (born 1945) is an American politician of the Democratic party. He was born in 1945 in Nipgen, Ohio (Ross County). Shoemaker's father, Myrl Shoemaker, was Lieutenant Governor of Ohio. Shoemaker received a Bachelor of Science in education from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, and a Master of Education from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. He began his 10-year teaching career as a math instructor and football coach in Southern Ohio. In 1977, he left education and started his own home construction business. In 1982, he was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives. Shoemaker served from 1983 to 1997 in the Ohio House of Representatives after his father was elected lieutenant governor in 1982. He was appointed to the Ohio Senate in 1997. In 2002, his district was made significantly more Republican in redistricting, and he was defeated by State Representative John Carey. Circleville, Ohio
Circleville is a city in and the county seat of Pickaway County, Ohio, United States, set along the Scioto River, 25 miles (40 km) south of Columbus. The population was 13,927 at the 2020 census. The city is best-known today as the host of the Circleville Pumpkin Show, an annual festival held since 1903. The city's name is derived from its original layout created in 1810 within the diameter of a circle of a Hopewell tradition earthwork dating to the early centuries of the Common Era. The county courthouse was built in the center of the innermost circle. By the late 1830s, for numerous reasons residents decided to gain authorization from the state legislature to change the layout to a standard grid, which was accomplished by the mid-1850s. All traces of the Hopewell earthwork were destroyed in Circleville, although hundreds of other monuments may be found in the Ohio Valley. Homeschooling or home schooling, also known as home education or elective home education (EHE), is the education of school-aged children at home or a variety of places other than a school. Usually conducted by a parent, tutor, or an online teacher, many homeschool families use less formal, more personalized and individualized methods of learning that are not always found in schools. John Carey (Ohio State Senator)
John Carey (born April 18, 1959) is an American politician in the Republican Party. He became the Chancellor of the University System of Ohio in 2013. In 2011, he served as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives, representing the 87th District, before resigning at the end of the year. He also was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1995 until 2002, and the Ohio Senate from 2003 to 2010. Career Carey graduated from Wellston High School and attended Ohio University, where he earned a degree in political science. After college, he worked as an aide to U.S. Representative Clarence Miller and served as Mayor of Wellston from 1988 to 1994. Carey defeated incumbent Representative Mark Malone in 1994 to take his first term in the Ohio House of Representatives, and won reelection handily in 1996.
