Mike S. Ryan
Mike S. Ryan is an American film producer. He is most known for producing the indie hit feature Junebug (film), Junebug, starring Amy Adams. Adams received a nomination for the 2006 Academy Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role, making it one of the most inexpensive films to ever receive a nomination. He has gone on to make films with such auteurs as Kelly Reichardt, Hal Hartley, Béla Tarr, Bela Tarr, Todd Solondz, and Rick Alverson. In 2006, Ryan was nominated for an Independent Spirit Producer of the Year Award and was one of Variety (magazine), Variety's 2007 “10 Producers to Watch." His works have included ''Old Joy'', ''Choke'', and ''Palindromes''. He began his career as a location manager for Ang Lee and an associate producer for MTV. ''Palindromes'' is a 2004 American comedy-drama film written and directed by Todd Solondz. Referencing Solondz's previous ''Welcome to the Dollhouse'', it was nominated for the Golden Lion award at the 61st Venice International Film Festival. The protagonist, a 13-year-old girl named Aviva, is played by eight different actors of different ages, races, and genders during the course of the film, which features an array of secondary characters. ''Fay Grim'' is a 2006 espionage thriller film written and directed by Hal Hartley. The film is a sequel to Hartley's 1997 film '' Henry Fool'', and revolves around the title character, played by Parker Posey, the sister of Simon Grim (James Urbaniak). The plot revolves around Fay's attempt to unravel an increasingly violent mystery in Europe. Hartley began writing the script in 2002, and filming took place in Europe from January to March 2006. ''Liberty Kid'' is a 2007 low-budget American film directed by Ilya Chaiken. Plot Two friends Derrick and Tico lost their jobs at a concession stand at the Statue of Liberty because of the September 11 attacks. In order to make money, they become drug dealers and participate in insurance scams. Derrick wants to go to college and has to support his two kids. When recruiters from the army come, Derrick decides to join the army because he is told that he'll get money for college and live rent free.
