Mike Renzi
Michael Ernest Renzi (April 28, 1941 – September 29, 2021) was an American composer, music director, pianist, and jazz musician. Renzi graduated from the Boston Conservatory in 1973 and from Berklee College of Music in 1974. He was a musical director for Peggy Lee and Mel Tormé for over 25 years. He worked on ''Sesame Street'' as the music director for seasons 31 through 40 and led the Mike Renzi Trio. He died in Newport, Rhode Island, on September 28, 2021, at the age of 80. Providence, Rhode Island
Providence is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of Rhode Island. One of the oldest cities in New England, it was founded in 1636 by Roger Williams, a Reformed Baptist theologian and religious exile from the Massachusetts Bay Colony. LaVerne Butler (singer)
LaVerne Butler is an American jazz singer. Butler was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, the daughter of saxophonist Scott Butler, and was exposed to jazz and rhythm and blues music. She attended the University of New Orleans. She worked in local clubs as a singer, including with New Orleans jazz veterans Ellis Marsalis and Alvin Batiste. She moved to New York City and worked as an English teacher while singing in clubs. She studied with another jazz veteran, singer Jon Hendricks. In the 1990s she recorded two albums for Chesky Records. Hilary Kole
Hilary Kole is an American jazz singer. Career Kole's father, Robert, performed on Broadway during the 1950s in the musicals ''Plain and Fancy'', ''Wonderful Town'', and ''West Side Story''. When she was nineteen, she attended the Manhattan School of Music. While she was a student, she sang in front of a big band six nights a week at the Rainbow Room, singing standards from the Great American Songbook. After the Rainbow Room, she sang at the Blue Note, Birdland, and the Algonquin Hotel. Her debut album, ''Haunted Heart'' (2009), was produced by jazz guitarist John Pizzarelli. Peggy King (born February 16, 1930) is a jazz vocalist and television personality. She was a member of big bands led by Charlie Spivak, Ralph Flanagan, and Ray Anthony. John Allan Jones (born January 14, 1938) is an American singer and actor. Jones is primarily a straight-pop singer (even when he recorded contemporary material) whose forays into jazz are mostly of the big-band/swing variety. He has won two Grammy Awards. Dick Johnson (clarinetist)
Dick Johnson (December 1, 1925 – January 10, 2010) was an American big band clarinetist, best known for his work with the Artie Shaw Band. From 1983 until his death he was the leader of the Artie Shaw Orchestra. Born Richard Brown Johnson in Brockton, Massachusetts, he also played the alto saxophone and flute. Johnson worked with Frank Sinatra, the Swing Shift Orchestra, Dizzy Gillespie and Tony Bennett. Johnson died in Boston, Massachusetts after a short illness, aged 84. Jane Harvey
Jane Harvey (born Phyllis Taff, January 6, 1925, Jersey City, New Jersey – August 15, 2013) was an American jazz singer, known for recording several tracks with famous musicians such as Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman during the 1940s. Harvey began her musical career at Barney Josephson's nightclub, occasionally performing there. In 1946, she joined Desi Arnaz's Orchestra, until she left in 1958 to raise her son, Bob Thiele Jr. She also entertained at military bases overseas with Bob Hope. During the late 1950s, she joined Duke Ellington's Orchestra. Around the time of her death, she performed locally, all over the Los Angeles area. Harvey died of cancer, at the age of 88, in her home. Harry Allen (musician)
Harry Allen (born October 12, 1966) is an American jazz tenor saxophonist born in Washington, D.C. He is a traditionalist in the manner of Scott Hamilton. He is best known for his work with John Colianni, Dori Caymmi, Keith Ingham, John Pizzarelli, and Bucky Pizzarelli. Early life and career Allen's father, Maurice, was a big band drummer. As a child, his father played records for him; these included recordings of tenor saxophonist Paul Gonsalves, which made a lasting impression. In high school he was an exceptional talent able to play tunes such as '' Body and Soul'' in the style of tenor players Coleman Hawkins, Ben Webster, and Flip Phillips. Early life In about 1930 the mother of Ann Burton (pseudonym of Johanna Rafalowicz) immigrated from Poland to the Netherlands. Ann was born in Netherlands and when she was 3 years old, in 1933, her mother married a diamond worker. In 1938 Johanna's surname was changed to her stepfather's and she became ''Johanna de Paauw'', which was her official name until 1971, when she again changed it back to ''Rafalowicz''.
