Mike Racanelli
Mike Racanelli is an American retired gymnast. His specialty was floor exercise, where he had an expressive style. College career Racanelli competed for Ohio State University, where he was a 10-time All-American. His coach at OSU was Peter Kormann, who had medalled in the 1976 Olympics. In 1990, Racanelli won the Nissen Award, the "Heisman" of gymnastics, as well as the Big Ten Medal of Honor. At the 1990 NCAA championships, Racanelli won gold in the all around and floor exercise. Also, he qualified to finals on all 6 apparatus that year, the only athlete to do so. Racanelli is a member of Ohio State's Men's Varsity "O" Hall of Fame. Elite career In 1989 Racanelli won gold on the floor exercise at the Visa Championships, U.S. National Championships and bronze in the all-around. Peter Kormann
Peter Kormann (born June 21, 1955) is an American retired gymnast and gymnastics coach. In the 1976 Olympics, he became the first American to medal in competition against the Soviets when he won a bronze medal in the men's floor competition. Kormann's bronze medal was also the first Olympic medal of any type won by an American gymnast in 44 years. Kormann competed for Southern Connecticut State University under coach Abie Grossfeld. In 1977, Kormann won the Nissen Award (the "Heisman" of men's gymnastics). Big Ten Medal Of Honor
One of the most prestigious conference awards in college athletics, the Big Ten Medal of Honor was first awarded in 1915 to one student-athlete from the graduating class of each university who had “attained the greatest proficiency in athletics and scholastic work.” The 14 institutions of the Big Ten feature over 10,000 student-athletes, more than any other conference, and only 28 of those individuals are recognized each year with the Big Ten Medal of Honor.
