Mike McLean (rugby League)
Mike McLean is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s. McLean played in the New South Wales Rugby League and the Brisbane Rugby League for the Eastern Suburbs Roosters, Newcastle Knights and the Gold Coast Seagulls. He gained selection for the Queensland Origin team. His position of choice was . Playing career He started his first grade career for the Easts Tigers in the Brisbane Rugby League in 1983. McLean also ran second in the Dally M medal to Gavin Miller in 1988. He was affectionately known as the ' Paddle pop lion' due to his rather prominent head of hair. Geography Bowen is located on the north-east coast in North Queensland, at exactly twenty degrees south of the equator. Bowen is halfway between Townsville and Mackay, and by road from Brisbane. Bowen sits on a square peninsula, with the Coral Sea to the north, east, and south. To the south-east is Port Denison and Edgecumbe Bay. Gavin Miller
Gavin John Miller (born 4 January 1960) is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played in the 1970's and '80s. An Australian international and New South Wales State of Origin representative forward, he played the majority of his club football for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks, and is an Immortal of the club. He earned two successive Dally M Player of the Year awards in 1988 and 1989. At his peak, Miller was regarded by many pundits as the most dangerous attacking forward in the NSWRL, largely due to his ball playing and kicking skills. Miller's influence was at the helm of the Cronulla-Sutherland becoming Premiership contenders after having spent some years at the lower end of the ladder. During Miller's heyday, Australian selectors were often criticized for ignoring him, notwithstanding that Miller did not show the best of his skills in a badly beaten New South Wales side during the 1989 State of Origin series. Paddle Pop is a brand of ice confection products originally created by Streets, which is now is owned by the English multinational consumer goods company Unilever. It is sold in Australia, New Zealand, and a few other countries. It is held for eating by a wooden stick which protrudes at the base. The Dally M Medal is awarded each year (annually) to the player voted for as the 'Player of the year' over the National Rugby League (NRL) regular season. The awards are named in honour of Australian former rugby league great Herbert Henry "Dally" Messenger. The award has existed since 1979, but has only been adopted as the official award for the Player of the Year in the NRL since 1998. Prior to that the official Player of the Year, in both the New South Wales and the Brisbane Rugby Leagues, received the Rothmans Medal whilst the Dally M Medal was awarded by the ''Daily Mirror'' newspaper. The Sydney Roosters are an Australian professional Rugby league, Rugby League Football Club based in the Eastern Suburbs (Sydney) and parts of inner Sydney. The club competes in the National Rugby League (NRL) competition.
