Mike Kahn
Michael Alan Kahn (June 5, 1954 – December 17, 2008) was a sports journalist, best known for his contributions, via what is now CBS Sportsline, to the beginnings of internet sports journalism. Mike Kahn most notably started his journalistic career in Jefferson City, covering high school sports, but swiftly moved up the ranks. He soon landed a job at the Tacoma News Tribune, where he joined John Clayton and Bart Wright to create a nationally renowned sports page. In the late '90s, Kahn moved to Florida to become one of the founders of Sportsline.com, one of the first independent sports webpages. Sportsline was eventually bought out by Viacom in 2004, which led to layoffs of many workers, including Mike. ''The News Tribune'' is an American daily newspaper based in Tacoma, Washington. It is the second-largest daily newspaper in the state of Washington with a weekday circulation of 30,945 in 2020. With origins dating back to 1883, the newspaper was established under its current form in 1918. Locally owned for 73 years by the Baker family, the newspaper was purchased by McClatchy in 1986. History The newspaper can trace its origins back to the founding of the weekly ''Tacoma Ledger'' by R.F. Radebaugh in 1880 and H.C. Patrick, under the firm name Radebaugh & Company. Radebaugh had served on the reportorial staff of the San Francisco Chronicle. He first visited Tacoma in June 1879. Radebaugh grew to know Patrick, who owned and operated a weekly newspaper in Santa Cruz. Radebaugh and Patrick agreed to move the business to Tacoma. John Clayton (sportswriter)
John Travis Clayton (May 11, 1954 – March 18, 2022) was an American sports journalist who was a National Football League (NFL) writer and reporter for ESPN, as well as a senior writer for ESPN.com. He also worked for ''The Pittsburgh Press'' and ''The News Tribune'' in Tacoma, Washington. Clayton received the Dick McCann Memorial Award (now the Bill Nunn Award) from the Pro Football Writers of America in recognition of his long-time coverage of professional football. Early life Clayton was born in Braddock, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh, on May 11, 1954. He started covering sports while he was attending Churchill Area High School. Beginning in 1972, he covered the Pittsburgh Steelers in twice-weekly dispatches for the ''Daily Press'' in St. Marys, Pennsylvania. He later wrote for ''Steel City Sports'', and also served as a stringer for AP Radio and CBS Radio. Clayton graduated from Duquesne University in 1976. The Seattle Seahawks are a professional American football team based in Seattle. The Seahawks compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league's National Football Conference (NFC) West, which they rejoined in 2002 as part of a conference realignment.
