Mike Ford (musician)
Michael John Ford is a Canadian singer-songwriter, and a former member of Toronto band Moxy Früvous. Solo career In 2004, Ford released ''Stars Shone on Toronto'', his first solo album. ''Canada Needs You'', his second solo album, was released in 2005, and was nominated for a Juno Award in Canada. It is an album that focuses on Canadian history, ranging from the earliest European contacts with First Nations to the settlement of the Prairie provinces. Ford's third album, ''Satellite Hot Stove'', an eight-song follow-up to ''Stars Shone on Toronto'', was released in 2007. ''Canada Needs You Volume Two'', the follow-up to the 2005 album, was released in June 2008. The sequel focused on events in Canadian history from World War I to the protests at Clayoquot Sound. Ford regularly tours schools across Ontario performing his curriculum-focused compositions about Canada in lively and interactive concerts. Moxy Früvous
Moxy Früvous was a Canadian politically satirical folk-pop band from Thornhill, Ontario, Canada. The band was founded in 1989, and was active until 2001. Common themes in Früvous songs include Canada and the "human experience". History The band formed in 1989 when Jian Ghomeshi (then going by Jean Ghomeshi), Murray Foster and Mike Ford, former classmates at the local Thornlea Secondary School and playing in a pub band called The Chia Pets at the time, joined with David Matheson to busk in Toronto. They drew crowds, and, eventually, the attention of Toronto-based CBC Radio, which commissioned songs about political and local issues for the radio show ''Later the Same Day.'' The Cocksure Lads
The Cocksure Lads is a Canadian British Invasion-style band led by Murray Foster and Mike Ford. The Cocksure Lads perform as a live band; there is also a movie about a fictional version of the band. History The Cocksure Lads were dreamed up by Murray Foster and Mike Ford, two former members of the Canadian band Moxy Früvous in the late 1990s. Foster also played bass in the band Great Big Sea. Foster and Ford shared a love of early sixties Britpop and began writing songs in that genre for their own amusement. One song, “That’s Any Good,” was performed several times by Moxy Früvous. As more and more of these British Invasion style tunes came to life, they began to develop a backstory to the band that had been named “The Cocksure Lads” by their friend Danny Ameri. The British Invasion was a cultural phenomenon of the mid-1960s, when rock and pop music acts from the United Kingdom and other aspects of British culture became popular in the United States and significant to the rising "counterculture" on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. Murray Foster
Murray Douglas Foster (born June 29, 1967) is a Canadian musician, vocalist, songwriter, director, playwright, screenwriter, and environmentalist. He is best known for his work as electric and upright bassist in the Canadian bands Moxy Früvous and Great Big Sea. In 2014, he directed the independent film, ''The Cocksure Lads Movie''. He and Mike Ford also perform in live performance as a 60's British Invasion styled band, The Cocksure Lads. History Foster was born in Thornhill, Ontario. At age 12, he and Jian Ghomeshi went to their first gig: a Peter Frampton concert. He attended Thornlea Secondary School, and graduated with a BA in English Literature from the University of Toronto. The Arrogant Worms
The Arrogant Worms are a Canadian musical comedy trio founded in 1991 that parodies many musical genres. They are well known for their humorous on-stage banter in addition to their music. The members since 1995 are Trevor Strong (vocals), Mike McCormick (guitar, vocals), and Chris Patterson (bass, vocals). History The Arrogant Worms came together in 1991 to do a few spots on campus radio station CFRC at Queen's University at Kingston, and quickly moved to doing spots on CBC Radio, particularly on Jack Farr's ''The Radio Show''. Founding members were Strong, McCormick, John Whytock, and Steve Wood. Wood left the band in 1991, and Whytock left in 1995. He was replaced by Patterson.
